The bizzare fact on Big Bill Tate's birth that don't make sense

Post by scorpio83 »

When I read from wikipedia that Big Bill Tate's birthday was 1896, but according to that website, he graduated from college at 9 in 1905? I feel like either someone put the wrong birth year of Big Bill Tate or the wrong year of graduation. Can anyone please find out if Tate's actual birth year is possibly earlier than 1896 or the fact that he graduated later than 1905? The fact from wikipedia doesn't make sense on Big Bill Tate. :maybe:

I have seen Tate's birthdate variously reported as 1885, 1891, 1893 and 1896.
Who knows which one is correct (if any).

Even if he was born in 1885, that would only make him 20 when supposedly graduated from college. Possible, but I'm guessing that he graduated after 1905 as well as being born before 1896.

Sounds like he was Archie Moore before Archie Moore  "I was three years old when I was born." Anyways, Cyber Boxing Zone lists him as born in Alabama, no birth date given.

SteveO, it would make more sense if the editor or whoever in charge of this website put 1885 the possible true birth year of Big Bill Tate and I agree with you. Ambling Alp II, I agree with you too it would make more sense if 1885 was Tate's true birth year. If he was born 1896 and graduate at aged 9 from college would make no sense like I said before unless Tate was a whiz kid. Someone has to research more on Tate's true birthdate. :TU:

His passport listed a date of November 5 1893. The 1920 census, giving his age as 28, make this a likelier date than 1896.

It is also another possible true birthdate of Big Bill Tate and maybe he graduated from college from age 12 to 22 at the time.
