Jarrett Hurd vs. Erislandy Lara Rematch Ordered

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The Championship Committee of the World Boxing Association has ordered an immediate rematch between WBA/IBF junior middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd and former beltholder Erislandy Lara.

The two sides were advised that a deal must be reached within 30 days or a purse bid would be scheduled.

Does Lara do something different?

Does Hurd pick up where he left off and finish Lara quick?

I haven't made my mind up as to how the rematch would play out, but I'm glad it has been ordered. :TU:

Hurd won. I want to see him move on to bigger and better things not this....ie charlo. Hurd doesn’t have long at the weight.

Seem's as though the WBA don't want Hurd holding their belt..

I mean it was a close win, sometimes we just got to move on. It wasn't controversial one bit.

Why not have Lara fight someone else and then meet Hurd down the line?

I don't mind the immediate rematch, the first fight was entertaining.

I had Lara winning the first fight, but even I am very suprised by this. There have been plenty of worse decisions than this one.

The first fight was good though and I'm sure the rematch will be equally entertaining.

I expect Hurd to win the rematch by stoppage.

Now he knows he can hurt Lara he should look to pick his punches better and land hurtful shots from the start, rather than bulling forward and trying to outwork him.

No, it was a close fight. There have been some absolute shockers down the years that don't have rematches mandated by the governing bodies.

Was the correct decision first time around but I won't complain about the rematch being ordered!

Lara's Manager: We're Confident of Beating Hurd in Rematch

Lara and his camp are over the moon with the WBA's ruling on the matter and they believe the titles will be recovered in the second fight.

"Every time we come to Las Vegas, the same thing always happens to us," Lara said at the time, "I think I was winning the fight. A single punch can not decide the result of twelve rounds. I want an immediate rematch.''

The two sides were given 30 days to reach an agreement or the fight will head over toe a purse bid.

"We think it's a fair decision, because many saw Lara as the winner," said the boxer's manager, Luis DeCubas Jr., to George Ebro.

"We are confident that in the rematch we will recover the lost title and our boxer will be the new unified king of 154 pounds. Lara is very happy with this and he will prepare like never before to recover his belt. If the first fight was extremely entertaining, the second will be much better."

I think the first fight would have took a lot more out of the 34 year old Lara than it did than the 27th year old Hurd. I'd expect Hurd to win again, maybe more clearly. Normally I wouldn't mind a rematch, but it just seems as though the WBA are getting in the way of the Hurd-Charlo unification that we all want to see.

Yeh. it does seem that way... It wasn't the most decisive win for Hurd, but nevertheless, on most scorecards, the 12th round KD won it for Hurd.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but as I mentioned above somewhere, maybe down the like. I don't think Lara's 'washed up just yet'.. With his style, he can still go a few years.. Unless he fights toe to toe again, which surprised many. I have a feeling, he'll box more on the backfoot in a rematch.

Lara's time is up.

This time Hurd's pressure will break down the 35 year old champion much sooner, which is often the case in rematches featuring a once slick, but aging fighter.

It won't be close.

Lara's resistance and drive will dissipate as Hurd keeps coming.

Expect the Cuban to hit the canvas by the 7th round and remain there for the count, realizing that his time has past.

Hurd by convincing KO.

I wouldnt blame Hurd if he vacated the belt in order to fight a unification bout with Charlo, which would probably be a bigger payday and more compelling fight. :OhYes:

Yep, this would be very like Gonzalez vs Wangek fights.

Agree mate. It would be nice for the belts to stay together but ultimately people remember the fights and Hurd vs Charlo is the fight to make right now at 154.

This is ridiculous. These alphabet organizations are getting way too bold lately. Who the hell are they to demand rematches now? Go screw. Hurd won the fight CLEARLY and that means that Lara is out of the 154 pound tournament to see who's the top dog in the division. We need to see Charlo/Hurd next.

I can see why people thought the first contest was a close fight, I had it a bit wider than the judges for Hurd myself.
Hurd's volume of punches was impressive, they weren't all well placed prettied up or home run shots either but they took a toll on Lara.
Could say Hurd looked clumsy and off balance, same time you can say he successfully hustled his way forward throughout the 12 rounds..
Lara should have gone to Hurd's body a lot more considering how much time they spent on the inside and I felt he didn't take advantage of that.
Good fight I enjoyed it.
