Archie Moore appeared in a skit on the Red Skelton Show in 1965.
(the skit begins at about 22:22 of this clip)

Thank god they didn't make him actually fight a bear. -- good post thank you for the clip; as a kid I was a big Red Skelton fan.
It was Red Skelton who taught me about venereal disease..
Freddy the Freeloader handed a guest star his stogie, the guest star asked, "You don't have any diseases right? And as the guest star put the cigar to his lips, Skelton improvised, "Na, nothing a little penicillin wouldn't clear right up." (edgy for 1965 TV) The guest star lost it, and couldn't stop laughing, I was ten years old, and was determined to find out what was so damn funny.

Archie Moore appeared in Breakheart Pass (1976). He fights Charles Bronson on top of a moving train.

Thanks for putting that up. I tried once awhile back if I could find,at least, the building of the ABC Club, but I couldn't find hide nor hair of it. I believe it was on Federal Bl. But that area has changed into massive industrial parks. That footage struck home with me. That's how it was back then located in that little strip mall. Thanks again.

which street was it located on in San Diego ,on Bates Street ?
Re: Archie Moore/ TV& Film appearances (1955-1976)
Moore's credits are available on imdb.com. Huckleberry Finn seems to be regarded as his peak. I forgot that he was in "The Fortune Cookie," which is a great comedy.

You might be right. The day I looked for it I asked around and nobody had heard of it.Then a friend of mine said it was on Federal Bl.I drove up and down Federal and even tried to retrace my steps from where I left my job at the school in Paradise Hills and then would stop by the ABC and still couldn't find it.Caractacus wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 19:35 which street was it located on in San Diego ,on Bates Street ?
BTW. The day I went looking for his old house in East San San Diego. It was easier because you could see the house from the I-15 freeway. However when I got off the freeway and began looking I got turned around. Again,I started asking around. Finally, after getting a few dumb looks some Crip gangster(everything he wore was blue) told me how to get there.
Archie Moore's old house with the swimming pool shaped like a boxing glove. It's now clubhouse for Swingers

I had read somewhere that Archie Moore had built his home on the same property lot that
his Old Chicken House Restuarant had been located on.
He opened a resturant in 1964 at 30th and Market Street in SD.

His house was a few blocks from where that chicken restaurant was-maybe a 5 minute walk. At one time Moore wanted to be a restaurateur selling chicken and other barbeque specialties basking the dishes with his "secret" sauce. It was that recipe he had for that sauce that motivated him to go into the restaurant business. But that line of work is tough as it is and he found out that he couldn't make ends meet so he went back to fighting. He also wanted to try being a jazz musician so he hooked up with saxophonist Lucky Thompson and his group. Again, not enough money to pay the bills and his ex wives their alimony so he went back into the ring again.

Archie Moore had co-written a song with Lucky Thompson entitled
"Stay In There" (c.1955)
it used to be available on youtube to hear
(at the end of it sounded like Archie Moore was singing along)

Re: Archie Moore/ TV& Film appearances (1955-1976)
Thanks for putting that up. I didn't know that the ABC foundation is still around. I know that when Archie was running things at his club, the city was paying him 30 thousand a year and I don't know how much he was taking in from the outside. The family shouldn't have ever sold the house.I assume it was for the money. Now they want it back. If they somehow got the money what would they do with it?Turn it into a museum? What would they put in it? They'd have to hire a staff. Just the overhead would be costly. I wish them the best of luck, but they are pretty much on their own with this.
BTW.Hall Of Famer Ted Williams was born and raised in San Diego. His house that he grew up in is still around in the North Park section of town. I don't know who owns it but people still rent the place. They'll never make it into some kind of city or national landmark. With the way the economy is today I can't see any government funding or anyone in the private sector that's going to make Archie or Ted's digs a museum. As far as the 1.6 million price tag for Moore's house, that's a little high. The neighborhood isn't a place that you'd want to walk alone in.I'd say buyers beware but I don't think they'll get any nibbles for this.
The house where Ted Williams grew up in.I believe it's on Utah Street in the North Park suburb of San Diego

Re: Archie Moore/ TV& Film appearances (1955-1976)
would you know what may have happened to Archie Moore's Red Thunderbird Convertible ?
He purchased it around 1955 and was still driving it around San Diego in the early 1990's from what I read.

I was surpised to learn it was still around too, because I had read that the city defunded the ABC program in June 1971
but Archie Moore tried to keep it going for a little while longer with his own money, then after that worked with the Boy Scouts
which he did prior to the ABC program in 1965.

I didn't even know that he had a red T Bird. But I do know this. There were a lot of people that wouldn't drive with him at the wheel. He was pedal to the metal all the way.And if you were driving he'd be on your ass about driving to slow. That house of his and his son wanting to buy it back looking for donor money and make some kind of museum with it will never happen. They'd have to charge an admission, and sadly to say they no one would pay to go.Like I said it's in a bad part of town. There's no parking. And the real sort of tragedy-no one ,even in that neighborhood, has ever heard of him unless you're an old fart.If they won't do anything with Ted Williams old house they won't do anything with Archie's-unless you're some sort of multi millionaire and run the place yourself and then write it off at the end of the year.I don't see anything like that happening.
