Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Coming up this weekend. Fight happens in Canada which is a big advantage for Stevenson. Looking through Stevensons last few opponents is very underwhelming (Fonfara 2, Williams Jr, Karpency, Bika, Sukhotsky, Fonfara 1, Bellew, Cloud). Pretty bad reign there. Compare that to Badous last few opponents (Cleverly, Degale, Bute, Groves, Dirrell). I think it's clear that Jack has had much better competition. He won all of those fights for me. Jack is taller but giving up 4 inches in reach.
I want Jack to win but Stevenson is a bomber with the left hand and never goes through a fight without finding a way to land it. However, I am going to with Jack. This is the best guy Stevenson has faced since Dawson and that was a quick blowout so we didn't really get to see much. His left had was still a secret weapon going into the Dawson fight. Stevenson had problems with Fonfara the first time and didn't look great against Bika. I find it hard to believe that Jack can't nullify one punch after training at the Mayweather gym for years.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
I guess, Stevenson is rusted out due to the lack of activity and good competition, furthermore he's aging, so I make an unpopular prediction of Jack knocking him out.

Before Bute was DQ'd for drugs, all the rest highlighted in BOLD were either split or majority decisions/draw.. Jack has had a lot of close fights. Adonis knows how to win on points too. It looks like both can be knocked down when caught.. Adonis has more power I believe. I think he will knock Jack out.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑14 May 2018, 03:19 Coming up this weekend. Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Looking forward to this one, there's a few ways I can see it turning out, both guys got KO'd by clubfighters early in their careers but have went on to great things and avoid getting KO'd again so far , cant believe Stevenson is 40, age has never been an issue that's ever really been brought up around him, even in his late 30s he's always been in great shape and still sharp, its been a year since the Fonfara rematch KO and that's a long time at that age
I thought Jack looked excellent against Cleverly he surprised me yet again with that performance he destroyed him and ive written him off too many times and although he's the fresher of the 2 and should be able to outbox Stevenson I do think Stevenson will catch him eventually to stop him, Stevenson is sharp but only really has that big left hand but he usually makes a good job of landing it

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
ya thats a good point, you can argue jack won all those for sure, but hes been in a lot of close fights (although tbf at a high level). part of that comes down to him really having no second gear and often just sort of plodding forward and taking breaks off offensively. he did this in the draw with that mexican too. and vs groves he was defo the effective puncher, but a lot of rounds he just sort of walked forward while groves pecked away with higher volume. jack i thought was underrated a long time but now maybe a tad overrated, hes very good but not a beast.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑14 May 2018, 04:37Before Bute was DQ'd for drugs, all the rest highlighted in BOLD were either split or majority decisions/draw.. very interesting fight,, stevenson really impressed me at his best. plenty of speed and sharp countering punching skills to go with some of the sports premier power. i think his best is better then jacks best tbh, though the time could be right for jack
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
It's been 3 years since Ducky went 12 rounds. May not seem like a long time, except when your now 40.
Jack needs to survive the first 5 rounds and then let nature take its course. He has been preparing for this fight a long time, I can't wait to figure out his fight plan.

Jack becomes probably in my top 5 favourite fighters of all time if he knocks Chickenson out.
Chickenson epitomizes everything wrong with boxing.

Interesting points from both of you. My inkling is towards Jack but I think an Adonis KO won would be foolish to discount. Jacks habit of keeping his hands at home won't get him massively outworked by Stevenson as he is no volume guy, but it also would give Stevenson the initiative to explode with his power shots too.jamamb wrote: ↑15 May 2018, 16:02ya thats a good point, you can argue jack won all those for sure, but hes been in a lot of close fights (although tbf at a high level). part of that comes down to him really having no second gear and often just sort of plodding forward and taking breaks off offensively. he did this in the draw with that mexican too. and vs groves he was defo the effective puncher, but a lot of rounds he just sort of walked forward while groves pecked away with higher volume.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑14 May 2018, 04:37Before Bute was DQ'd for drugs, all the rest highlighted in BOLD were either split or majority decisions/draw.. Also agree with kiwi about how Jacks gameplan will be interesting. Given that he has let fights go away from him before I'm not sure he will be totally passive early, not sure he would want to give too much of an early lead away. But obviously you have to assume Stevenson is both a lot more dangerous early and given his age more vulnerable to losing steam down the stretch. So it's a balancing act for Jack, given the X Factor of Stevensons power I guess early caution will be more likely. But like jamamb says Jack can be one paced- can he go up a gear if he needs to claw back a deficit? Fascinating match in that sense
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Jack's had some hard fights, interested to see if they are catching up with him and if he can keep away from that left hand that is still one of the best in the game.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Jack has bulked up a lot since his SMW days. He will have to drain a bit to get to LHW on the scales. I can't see him ever making SMW again sorry. He is probably better off in LHW, SMW is a tough division.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Dont you blimmin jinx it Oggie, we need Ducky gone! I can't wait another year for him to fight again.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
He took a few of Groves's best right hands, and I rate St George's power when he lands them flush. Hopefully Jack keeps his phone to his ear for the first 1/2 dozen rounds. His habit of keeping 'em low disturbs me, especially if it is with Ducky.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
I can't put Groves at SM at the level of a full blown LHW like Stevenson. It won't feel the same.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
Strange fight. We have a 40 years old boxer who never beat a "real champ", but, he knocked out almost every opponent. On the other side, a boxer who moved recently in another weight of class beating a good boxer - Cleverly - but not in his prime. But the Jack's opponents in the super-middle weight division were far better than Stevenson ones. For this fact, age, and a solid chin, i favour Jack.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
I'd expect Groves to move up for it. He's a big 168 and the move would probably do him good at this stage.
Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
That scenario is viable. I see Groves being busy for a while though. Im sure he will want to face Smith (assuming he beats Eubank) when he is healed. Then there will be mandatories grabbing for his belts.Yes We Can wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 03:03I'd expect Groves to move up for it. He's a big 168 and the move would probably do him good at this stage.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
I’m edging Stevenson via KO.
Despite his age their is zero miles on the clock.
Even though he’s been inactive his style is very simple and I can’t see inactivity affecting it. Even if his timings off he’s more than capable of punching through the guard.
Like Jack. His best result in my eyes is the Groves win. It was close, but you’ve got to be talented to take Groves close.
Also it looks like he seriously took away DeGales prime with the war they had.
Can’t read to much into his Cleverly fight. I thought Clev wasn’t motivated at all for it.

Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
I know it's a looong time ago & Dawson was coming off a loss down at super-middle, but Chad had beaten Hopkins for the WBC title & before that had disposed of Tarver, Johnson & Adamek for light-heavy belts.geronimo wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 02:51 Strange fight. Re: Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack
As to this match-up, I'm with the consensus: Jack needs to keep the guard up early & keep marching forward, working the body & forcing Stevenson's 40-something legs to move.
I'd love for Jack to do it but as C-P & jamamb say it's a balancing act for Jack to keep that left hand from landing (DeGale managed to land the southpaw cross early, of course, sitting Jack on his arse) whilst applying enough pressure to make the old guy crumble late.
Fascinating, can't miss fight.
