Linares-What now?
Linares-What now?
Despite losing to loma, Linares is still in my eyes viable in the light and super lightweight divisions. I think he would beat all of the current champions aside from Garcia and Crawford, both of whom he would be a competitive opponent against; I wouldn't count him out against either of them. He's the first guy to expose really any weakness in loma,(the Salido fight doesn't really count in my mind) So, unless he is gonna retire, where does he go from here?
Re: Linares-What now?
Why doesn't the Salido fight count? The Salido fight exposed Loma's MAIN weakness. Mauling, pressure fighters that simply attack, and don't care if they look good or not.jpspice wrote: ↑15 May 2018, 23:55 Despite losing to loma, Linares is still in my eyes viable in the light and super lightweight divisions. That being said I'd say Linares just kinda hovers as a solid contender for another few years. MAYBE picks up another belt, but it'll be tougher for him from here on out.
Re: Linares-What now?
He's a big name in the UK so could command a decent purse there, whether he fights a British fighter or not.
Doesn't he also live in Japan? Maybe a fight against unbeaten Japanese 140 fighter Hiroki Okada.
In the days when there's half a dozen 'world' title belts in each division a man of his class won't have to be on the sidelines long.

Re: Linares-What now?
He actually did very well against Lomachenko. Surprised at the wide scorecards I saw on the RbR. He had Lomachenko buzzed at least 3 times in the fight.
A loss is simply a loss. Everyone that fights at a high level loses, but Linares did very well for himself.
I think a good fight for him would be Zlaticanin. I remember a lot were favoring Zlaticanin when they were the top 2 fighters a long time ago. It'd be great to see that fight.

He's top 3 at lightweight no doubt alongside Garcia and Loma.
Re: Linares-What now?
He should fight Ray Beltran

Dejan Zlaticanin is a good fight for him..
We'll have to see where he ends up on the WBO, WBC and IBF rankings by next month. See what route he can take.
Ray Beltran is being set up for Loma
Richard Commey would be a good fight.

Re: Linares-What now?
By the way, that'd be a horrific style matchup. Linares has so much trouble with tough, Mexicans pressure fighters. To top it off, Beltran is enormous and hits hard.
Funny enough, Carl Frampton also looks horrific against Mexicans.
Honestly, I would keep Linares well away from Beltran.
Re: Linares-What now?
Should join the WBSS 140 tournament that is being currently planned.

Put him in with the loser of Garcia-Easter and go from there.
He beats Beltran, who seems like an ordinary guy who was maneuvered into a title shot because he has a backstory.

Wht do you still include Crawford?
He left the lightweight division quite a while back.
He even fights for one of the welterweight championships next month.

You say some of the dumbest things on these boards. Your posts give me cancer.SenorPipino wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 16:32 Put him in with the loser of Garcia-Easter and go from there.

Re: Linares-What now?
He is the #3 and earned that position, anyone below is in for a tough night if they get in the ring with him.
As for the future, I would like to see a rematch with Campbell sometime, I also want someone to clean Easter Jr's clock and I don't care who, Linares will do nicely.

Easter will apparently get his clock cleaned by Garcia in late July at L.A.'s Staples Center.

He's holding a SL belt, is he moving up to welter for good?SenorPipino wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 16:40jpspice wrote: ↑15 May 2018, 23:55 Despite losing to loma, Linares is still in my eyes viable in the light and super lightweight divisions. Linares does great numbers and viewers in Britain. Worst comes to worst, a rematch with one of those domestic-level Brits would be the best thing for his career.

It's not stupid if it sells.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 15:41On what planet would a 140 lb. tournament be a good idea for a former once-beaten champion? C'mon guys, that'd be a stupid idea.

Re: Linares-What now?
Well, the CW tournament certainly doesn't seem to be selling much. The SMW tournament is selling on that domestic British level, though, which feeds into my post about him staying on that domestic gauntlet.oogiebe wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 15:44It's not stupid if it sells.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑17 May 2018, 15:41On what planet would a 140 lb. tournament be a good idea for a former once-beaten champion? The only Loma's weakness Salido fight exposed was his lack of pro experience. The same tactics used by Salido now wouldn't work.gilgamesh wrote: ↑16 May 2018, 00:03Why doesn't the Salido fight count?
