Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton - 18 August

Post by Mimmy »

Possible match up in Belfast 18th August.

So can Josh pull off another great win if this fight is signed. There is talk of it happening this year.

I think Josh can beat Frampton myself.

Thoughts.

I thought they were putting it on the backburner this year and hyping it for next year.

Frampton beats Warrington convincingly. Possibly by stoppage late on.

Didn't everyone say this about Selby though?

I think Warrington has come on so much, he's not just workrate, he's an educated boxer and though he doesn't have KO power, I think he has enough pop in his punches to command a certain amount of respect.

I think Frampton vs Warrington will be pretty close.

After Saturday this fight is a lot closer. I remember way back when I kept expecting Steve Robinson to lose every time he fought a more accomplished opponent. That didn't happen for quite a while. May be the same thing with Warrington.

Frampton is the better boxer by far but he doesn't have the reach to keep Warrington away all night and has been prone to slowing down in later rounds recently.

The Frampton of a few years ago would win a shut out easily but nowadays it's a close fight I think as Carl has slipped a bit recently and the step up in weight means harder nights for him most fights these days.

Warrington is so fit he'll give most featherweights a hard night and has a chance to wear Frampton down late on.

If pushed I'd back Frampton but I'm far from convinced.

I agree with you but i said the same about tyszu beating hatton, lacey beating calzaghe and i said selby would beat warrington, its about levels and looking at it we think frampton would beat him but we dont know if warrington has the extra 2 or 3 levels. Time will tell but for me franpton beats warrington by late stoppage

No chance of this fight until at least next year - FW will milk couple of easy defences while the Leeds cash cow still rolls up and puts money in their hip.

Warrington might win in Leeds with a lenient ref but I'd favour Frampton in Belfast.

Would be chuffed to be proved wrong. Warrington does have smarts

On a slightly separate note, does anyone know why Warrington has a different surname to his dad? Are they actually biologically related?

Frampton was never good enough to shut Warrington out.

Apart from Santa Cruz; who has Frampton beat that is better than Warrington? Quigg? Martinez? Donaire?

You've just named 4 people to be fair. I really think it's a hard night for Frampton at this stage though. He just seems to struggle to perform for 12 rounds and Warringtons work rate is going to he a lot to handle

I'd say all 4 of them are better boxers than Warrington but Warrington's fitness and desire at this stage is pretty impressive.

Don't think Warrington has the power to back up that style against a top fighter with power in their punches. Frampton has the skill and has shown the sense to not engage in a brawl and he has the power, especially against a coming forward fighter to make them think hard about it. Plus Frampton is more of a counter/boxer so Warrington will suit him more. (As an aside I thought the too short reach had been done to death now with Frampton, he has the footwork and skills to more than make up for any reach issues).

I’d go with Frampton first and then Barry in Leeds win or lose.

except for when it doesn't... like when he was leading off and falling short against Gonzalez and LSC(2)- i don't think many would argue his short arms are a disadvantage when he is forced to lead, which he doesn't like doing and which is probably related to his short arms.
