Rumour Mill: Joshua-Wilder?

Post by Enlightened-One »

I've been reading loads of rumours from my Facebook friend sources informing me that Joshua-Wilder has already been agreed to take place during autumn in the UK.

Has anybody else heard of this, because the sheer volume of hype surrounding this roumor seems rather unusual to me, so perhaps it really is true?

Thoughts? :-?

I think both sides want to make the fight. From what I read the biggest obstacle besides money was availability of Wembley Stadium.

Hearn has today confirmed a deal with very close to being signed with Wilder for a bout scheduled to take place in November.

It looks like Joshua will face Povetkin in September, with the Wilder bout taking place during November/December (probably in Cardiff).

I've never met Eddie Hearn and I'm not following him on social media either.

That seems a pretty quick turn around, I can only see one of those taking place with the other being pushed back to a spring 2019 date at Wembley.

You're right, but I'm only communicating what's been reported by Matchroom.

Their plans might be true if they perceive Povetkin as being easy work.

Joshua is probably a 2 fight a year guy now.

Very unlikely to come back 2 months after a Povetkin fight. Or even 3 months.

Whether Povetkin is easy or difficult would have no bearing.

IF the Wilder fight is made, the earliest is about March or April 2019.

It isn't as simple as that, he will need a three month camp for both fights, which that timetable doesn't really allow for.

Also, putting Joshua in 2 PPVs in such quick succession could adversely affect the buy rate.

Particularly so soon after a summer where British fans will have to fork out for both the WBSS final and Whyte vs Parker in the space of a month.

A bout between AJ and Povetkin will be officially announced within the next 48 hours, with the date of the bout scheduled for early September.

After that, who knows? My guess though, is that Joshua will fight one more time before the end of the year.

I created this thread three days ago and strongly-suggested the following:
Enlightened-One wrote: 08 Jun 2018, 14:58 I've been reading loads of rumours from my Facebook friend sources informing me that Joshua-Wilder has already been agreed to take place during autumn in the UK.
And look what's just been announced to the media! :OhYes:

"WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Deontay Wilder ACCEPTS Anthony Joshua terms, SIGNS CONTRACT with REMATCH CLAUSE for 2018 UK CLASH - says Shelly Finkel"

Deontay Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel has announced they have accepted an offer from Eddie Hearn to fight Anthony Joshua in the UK and are awaiting Joshua’s signature to confirm the mega-fight.

Speaking exclusively to World Boxing News, Finkel has stated the fight, if agreed on Joshua’s side, will take place towards the backend of the summer.

“The story is very simple and that is Deontay Wilder today, accepted the terms that Anthony Joshua’s team gave us," Finkel exclusively told World Boxing News in an interview on Monday.

"If for any reason Anthony changes his mind and wants to fight in the U.S, the $50m offer we have made to him is still there. It’s now in Joshua’s court.

"It will take place in the UK either September or October according to Eddie Hearn."

On how the agreement came about from Wilder's side, Finkel added: “They gave us an offer, we were hoping they’d accept the U.S offer instead because there’s so much money but instead since they haven’t we’ve decided that if you don’t want $50m then we’re willing to come the UK and take your offer.

"Hopefully, we’ll get an answer in the next day or two. Deontay wrote to Joshua and said ‘Hey, I accept your offer, let’s fight in the UK.’

“I met with Barry a week ago and have been on the phone to himself and Eddie regularly this week. We want the fight next, we’ve signed the contract and we’re ready to go.”

And the legendary boxing manager and promoter confirmed there is a rematch clause inside the contract for another fight between the pair Stateside.

Finkel said: “That was in the offer, yes. They asked for the rematch to be in place, so we’ve agreed to it.

"We got two big punchers, big men, undefeated and have knocked out each opponent apart from one on each side – it’s a humungous fight.

"I talk to Deontay late at night and if he’s out I hear people in the background asking when this fight is happening, and I imagine Joshua is experiencing that even more so," he concluded.

So the very same story is now being published by several sources, which strongly suggests that a Joshua-Wilder bout could happen during 2018. :TU:

At this point, nothing has been signed.

Stumbling blocks guaranteed, therefore.

Happy birthday (3 months early) Taansend.

But I assume that the only fight you'll see in England that day is Canelo vs ?? if you happen to drop into a pub and catch a satellite telecast.

Wilder has allegedly signed a contract. The interview transcript states this.

I'd be shocked if Hearn would put his cash cow out there twice in fairly quick succession.

Joshua only fights twice a year, so I believe if it's Povetkin in the Autumn, Wilder will be next year.
