Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
I know there was uproar because of Adelaide Byrds ridiculous scorecard but how did you see it?
Clear win for Golovkin? Close fight?
I scored it (I was drunk) & had it a draw but I can see how someone not scoring it would have Golovkin winning. He was pressing the fight. But I felt that Canelo's defensive work & counter punching was overlooked.
I'm going to watch it again a week or two before the rematch and I might well have a different outcome. I remember looking at my scorecards & having too many even rounds but - at the time - that's what I felt was warranted.
I definitely didn't feel that Canelo won but I don't think a draw was a horrible result either.

The draw was fair.
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Looking at the Compubox stats (I know, stats don't tell the whole story) Canelo landed a higher percentage of punches in 8 of the rounds but Golovkin landed more punches in 10 of the rounds.
It's still crazy to think that Byrd only gave Golovkin two rounds

Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Golovkin by 8-4. Ludicrous judging.
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Golovkin won it. He dictated the pace, he was more active, he was more effective, what's the most important. Canelo could have landed the biggest punches of the fight, but he didn't do too much for the victory, he didn't score enough for it as the result. Judges clearly helped him, which had already been common.
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Maybe Golovkin should have spent less time jabbing and more time throwing power punches.
When you let your opponent land more power punches then you will always be giving them a chance to nick the result.

Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Anything from 115-113 GGG to 117-111 GGG is fair.
It wasn't a draw, and the 118-110 Canelo score was blatant corruption.

Golovkin 8-4. I wouldn't have said 'easy' but I think that's more accurate than it being a close fight so I voted for easy.
He should have spent more time jabbing. I don't think I've seen him lose a round in which he commits to throwing his jab consistently.
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
If you think a fighter wins 8 rounds of a fight I'd say that would be an easy win, maybe not in terms of the actual fighter but on the cards. Not really close if he wins twice as many rounds.
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
I suppose. I'd say competitive but clear rather than easy though, Golovkin was made to work for most of those 8 rounds. Definitely a clear winner though.Taansend wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 12:45If you think a fighter wins 8 rounds of a fight I'd say that would be an easy win, maybe not in terms of the actual fighter but on the cards. I'm just talking about the scoring. Anything more than 3 rounds has to be labeled clear winner.ElJefe wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 12:59I suppose. I'd say competitive but clear rather than easy though, Golovkin was made to work for most of those 8 rounds. Definitely a clear winner though.
I like how no one has voted for Canelo Win. Only me & 'Orse thinks a draw was fair too.

Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
I had Alvarez up by two points.
Either man winning by a couple of points or a draw would’ve been fine. If the card for Canelo had been a couple of rounds rather than 10-2 I don’t think anyone would have complained about a draw and would have just looked forward to a repeat.
It’s now become common to think of it as ‘Golovkin was robbed’ but it was a close and competitive contest.
Golovkin was the aggressor but Alvarez controlled him and spun away from the right beautifully, launching sharp counters as he did so. There is a highlight video doing the rounds which is similar to the highlight video of Mayweather doing the same to Alvarez when they boxed.

Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Canelo crafted his way to a relatively close loss, to which some responded favourably because Golovkin wasn't able to dominate him.
I think Golovkin would've been virtually everyone's winner had the two been debutants. But it was easy to give Canelo more credit on the night because of prior expectations. I don't feel that he quite deserved that draw (Jacobs is the real argument there), and that was his best effort until Golovkin further declines.

He was robbed by that ridiculous card for Alvarez. The Commission apologized, it's pretty clear what happened.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑15 Jun 2018, 14:59 I had Alvarez up by two points.

I thought it was a relatively close but clear win for GGG, Canelo just didn't do enough to clearly win enough rounds.
It was also a very dull fight.

I agree. And my mates said he ran like a bitch! They dont get it!
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
I thought it was close. I couldn't make a case for Alvarez winning the fight but wouldn't have complained if Golovkin had got the nod.
I wasn't outraged by the draw announcement as by that point I was half expecting it.

Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
I thought competitive, but clear, to Golovkin. I don't have a problem with anyone thinking it was close. There were a few close rounds. I just thought Canelo fought in spurts, trying to steal rounds with 20 seconds of flashiness, whereas Golovkin was far more consistently effective, although less eye catching.
8-3 and 1 even was how I scored it on the night. I'd say anything between 7-5 and 9-3 is acceptable. Outside of that range gives too much benefit of the doubt to one fighter.

Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
7-4-1 Golovkin. But I expected Golovkin to have more ideas and urgency.
Re: Canelo Golovkin 1. How Did You See It?
Didn't he throw more big punches than Canelo anyway? I don't read that CompuBox crap but I thought he did. Canelo was good at times and threw some good shots but it was always moving back and because he was desperate to keep GGG off. GGG was in control. Was a top quality fight but I had GGG winning by 3 or 4 clear rounds. Subjective though man! I could genuinely understand somebody who scored a draw but that was being kind. I couldn't give Canelo the fight at all although he won a fan in me that night! Well, before all this shite happened!
