Antonio Margarito vs. Sam Eggington Showdown Explored
Sam Eggington - who some call the 'The English Margarito' - has revealed that there have been discussions for a showdown with the real Antonio Margarito.
Margarito (41-8, 27 KOs), a former welterweight world champion, has been out of the ring since winning a controversial technical decision over Carson Jones back in September of 2017.
The Mexican slugger, 40-years-old, resumed his career back in 2016 after being inactive since December of 2011.
The issue in making that contest is the medical condition of Margarito's eye.
Margarito's right eye had several surgical procedures after suffering what many felt was a career ending injury back in his 2010 decision loss to Manny Pacquiao.
He was barely cleared for the rematch with Miguel Cotto, which took place in December 2011 - and that contest was stopped by the ringside doctors after his right eye swelled up badly.
His entire comeback has taken place in Mexico, and he was targeted as an opponent for Eggington in the United States - where there are issues with getting him medically cleared to fight.
"There were big talks for the Margarito fight," Eggington said to Sky Sports.
"That's obviously one I'd love and just to have your name against someone like him is quite unbelievable for me, it's the same feeling I had when I faced Paulie Malignaggi.
"The problem is that, from what I've heard, it doesn't look like it will be sanctioned in the USA because of problems he's had. I don't know whether different states have different rules, so we will just have to wait - I'd be all over it though! The plan for me right now is to have this upcoming fight and then a nice, big one again in Birmingham before going off to the US."

I’m not usually a big fan of boxers being allowed to fight with serious damage, but in Margarito’s case I’m happy to make an exception.

This would be a beatdown for Margarito...to a nicer guy it couldn't happen.

Wouldn't even matter if it was in Mexico. It'll be a one sided thrashing.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 18:19Hearn can get Marg in the UK. Can he?
Egg has slready said it will be in the States.
He’ll be on the Khan undercard I take it.

go watch margarito vs carson jones, jones was starting to beat him up and looked like he had a good chance of even stopping marg when suddenly margaritos cut was deemed to bad for it to continue. even though it was totally unchanged since it happened and mightve even been from a legal punch
marg is a defeat waiting to happen, if eggs in decent form i think hell do it

He doesn't even have to be in all that great of shape I don't figure. Marg is shot. If he can't beat Margarito or if he even struggles with him, he'll never be anything more than he is now.jamamb wrote: ↑27 Jun 2018, 18:54 go watch margarito vs carson jones, jones was starting to beat him up and looked like he had a good chance of even stopping marg when suddenly margaritos cut was deemed to bad for it to continue. even though it was totally unchanged since it happened and mightve even been from a legal punch

A 40 year old Margarito with 3 fights in the past 7 years? What`s the point.
Why not fight somebody with a chance. Waste of time fighting Margo.

Who'd have ever thought Eggington would end up with Malignaggi and Margarito on his CV?
Re: Antonio Margarito vs. Sam Eggington Showdown Explored
Liam Williams woukd be a great scrap for eggington. I actually wish he was fighting Brook instead of this canadian nobody. Wonder if Eggingtons team asked or would take that fight?

Love watching Margacheato getting beaten up. Hope it happens one way or the other.
Re: Antonio Margarito vs. Sam Eggington Showdown Explored
Eggington would fight anyone - not sure Brook or Hearn would want tear up with Brook/Khan Millions pending for December’s nice end of year pay day for everyone.
Re: Antonio Margarito vs. Sam Eggington Showdown Explored
Not sure this would be licensed anywhere apart from Mexico, although I guess they could find a state lax enough to license Margarito somewhere in US...
Re: Antonio Margarito vs. Sam Eggington Showdown Explored

That should've been the official thread. We should've locked this one.

Up to the Mosely fight he looked like a beast. Since then, he hasn't won a single fight by KO... and I wonder why lol
Re: Antonio Margarito vs. Sam Eggington Showdown Explored
I've met Margarito a few times. Lovely bloke (I know I know) but the state of his eye after the Pacquiao fight was shocking. One looked about 3cm lower than the other. Like an ogre.
He shouldn't be fighting.
