Is Boxing Spreading Itself Too Thin?

Post by caldo2025 »

Was the PBC a success after all? I'm asking this because it seems like the PBC's maiden voyage, though unsuccessful, has given every major Boxing Promoter the push and the balls to go out on their own in some way or another. HBO & SHOWTIME used to be the only shows in town but it looks like the sport is moving towards a web streaming model that will bring costs way down and provide fans with more of a variety of choices come fight night.

But Boxing is going to be split up between many different video streaming portals as the year goes on. Will casual boxing fans go out of their way to keep up or will the confusion and additional fees not be worth it for them? HBO/SHO have always done a great job marketing these fights and focus fighters by writing their stories and telling it so well. I feel that as their roles atop the sport subside, the sport is going to suffer in a big way. If there was one thing that we learned from the PBC is that they used so many different broadcast networks that it confused fans.

What do you think?

Don't worry, they can make up for it with more belts and divisions.
