I was at groves first two fights. First one was decent and second fight was brilliant. Get rewarded now with a final in the Middle East..

Fcuk right off!!!

I would of went to a josh Taylor fight and maybe Burnett but out of principle now no way...

Can't believe the amount of idiots that don't understand why the final is in Saudi.

As if Kalle has just decided at the last minute to not have it in the UK and put it on in Saudi.

These tournaments were vastly over paying fighters in prize money to join this tournament.

This money has to come from somewhere. The TV money couldn't of covered much considering no US coverage and only on ITV box office in the UK.

The Saudis have obviously invested a large amount of money on the provision they get one of the finals. So without this fight being in Saudi, these tournaments don't happen.

29/08 is a Wednesday, I cant see it being on that date mentioned.

29/09 more likely as that is a Saturday, so not sure if this was just a typo.

I've never been to Saudi (I lived in Dubai for a year 20 years ago, but it was off limits). It would be interesting at the very least.

Is it true that alcohol is completely banned in Saudi?
I can't see this destination appealing much for anyone except hard core followers of each fighter.

It's all about money!
Why did Calzaghe and Hatton go and fight in the States?
Why does Josh Warrington fight in Leeds?
Fights are put on to generate the most money, simple as that

I am pretty sure you can only get a working and pilgrimage visa also so that rules out going to the fight if you got the time and cash.

I imagine the 'crowd' will be made up of a few hundered wealthy elite types (oil tycoons, members of the royal family etc...).

All of whom would have paid an extortionate price for their tickets.

Saudi has recently opened up for tourist visas - obviously no alcohol.

When I suggested it to my boxing buddies that it could be a niche trip for a boys weekend (near some of the best diving in the world), early Islamic architecture etc, the response was not favourable (cue jokes about not wanting to be on that kind of the lash).

Surely this would sell out a decent sized arena in the UK and with ppv cash it would be a big deal? However I do eerily recall that creepy MC with the bizarre pony tail hollering something about "the road to Jedda" when announcing the boxers in an earlier round of the WBSS. At the time I thought he was quoting the bible or something!
