Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
Both fighters look to have agreed to it verbally.
Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
If it will be on and Garcia loses, Lomachenko fight will probably be thrown somewhere far away. And Garcia will lose to Spence almost for sure. That sucks. Lomachanko fight would have been much more interesting and competetive.

Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
If Garcia loses in bad fashion, the Lomachenko fight probably won't happen.
There even has to be a question of whether Garcia would ever return to 135, win or lose against Spence.
All this bouncing up and down in weight is not a good thing.
If Garcia puts up a competitive showing, even in defeat, versus Spence, then his stock soars. Except with those who nowadays consider a loss to be a call for retirement.
One thing's true-- if Garcia has the balls to climb into the ring with Spence, you'll look like an idiot if you continue to refer to him as a "cherry-picker "
Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
Garcia could not dent Broner and despite out-boxing him he got pushed back when eh tried to trade.
I guess Garcia thinks if he loses to the bigger man then he can still get another big fight with Loma. But if he loses to Loma then there is no Spence fight.
Spence still not fighting Crawford is the real headline here.

I absolutely hate this fight. Garcia is going to get killed and it takes a lot of the intrigue away from a loma fight or even a fight with someone like gervota davis.

Garcia is no dummy. I think Garcia is more fundamentally sound than Spence. Spence is obviously more powerful. I can see Garcia troubling Spence with his movement and timing. Great fight.
Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
lol nah spence wins easily . but u want a msmatch then mght be a fght for you. garca would fnd the best at 140 plenty tough btw. lpnets = b level but he still won 4 rounds and went the distance easily. garcas totally physcally outmanned vs a large super strong 147 pounder such as spence. and spences hardly an oaf boxng wise. hes very sharp wth those shots.
and ya garcas such a managment genus ..thats why he was out 2.5 years of prime years

If Garcia goes through with this fight with Spence I would say he made a bad choice, his best hope is to get KO'd quick by a body shot and not take too much punishment.

Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
I feel like a broken record debating this whole situation. Garcia has become a politician since his long ordeal with Arum.
He's calling out Spence to throw people off the scent of the Lomachenko fight. It's clear as day that's the fight to make, provided Loma unifies against Beltran later this year. That sets up an undisputed match between him and Mikey next year.
If he calls out a fighter who's more dangerous, the rationale is that nobody can fault him for passing on Loma. The reality is that the fight poses far less risk to his reputation and standing. If he loses, he's supposed to. He still gets props for taking on the bigger man, and he remains a titlist at Lightweight. If he takes on Loma after Spence and loses, there's the ready made excuse that he isn't the same fighter as before (whether due to the weight fluctuations or the beating he could take).
However, if he goes after Loma and loses, there's no cushion. No excuse to be had. He's taking on a naturally smaller guy who is mostly considered a 50-50 fight, if Mikey isn't outright favored. He's also no longer a champ.
That said, I don't think he's realistically looking at either right now. He'll probably end up fighting Pacquiao for the bigger payday.
Which is fine for now, honestly. As long as he mans up within the next year.

I remember when everyone said Pacquiao fighting DLH was suicide and that Pac was ducking Zahir Raheem. I remember. In the end, it won't matter if Garcia is even competitive.Abradolf Lincler wrote: ↑31 Jul 2018, 16:08 I feel like a broken record debating this whole situation. Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
I’m a huge fan of Garcia, and I really really don’t want to see this fight. Just can’t see how he’d have a chance against someone so much bigger and who is also highly skilled.
Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
I'm all for someone daring to be great, but there are alot of ways to go about it other than moving up 2 divisions and taking on the Boogeyman of the division. Like most others here I'd much rather see Garcia stick around at 135 for a unification again Lomachenko, it's one of the most talked about fights in boxing between 2 top 5 p4p fighters.
I do think Garcia has the skills to hang with Spence in spurts but I see no way he wins the fight and I think he'll be lucky to see the final bell.
The only thing I can think is Garcia realizes a fight against Lomachenko is much harder to make. He knows it would be a TopRank event if it was to happen and I don't blame him for not wanting to do business with Bob Arum. Especially considering what Garcia went through to get out of his TR contract.
I'm not sure Garcia cares to much about the other guys at 135. There are some tough fights for him, but aside from Lomachenko there's really no one in the division that will separate him from the rest of the pack. He must feel he might as well take the biggest challenge out there, win or lose, rather than taking a bunch of fights he's simply not that hungry for.

I happen to be one of those guys that have called Mikey a cherry picker and if he takes the fight against Spence then I'll never call him that again. It makes no sense to me though that he would take this fight over a classic showdown with Loma. Mikey claims to be wanting the biggest fights out there but why does he refuse to fight the 2 best fighters at or around the weight he's at? I think that Mikey and Loma would be one for the ages. Mikey had also agreed to fight Linares and bowed out for a cherry pick belt.SenorPipino wrote: ↑31 Jul 2018, 09:09If Garcia loses in bad fashion, the Lomachenko fight probably won't happen.

I don't get the rationale but if he signs the contract to fight Spence then i'll finally shut my mouth for good. I can't see how Mikey can be so confident in a jump in weight like that with his body type. It should be an absolute blood bath imo but Mikey must see something he can exploit so well that it would completely turn the tale of the tape in his favor somehow.
I will say that if Mikey ever pulled this off, it would be one of the greatest feats in Boxing History and if that's why Mikey's doing it then i'm slowly becoming a fan of him just trying it.

We will revisit this thread after Mikey gives a good showing.
Other fights people thought were suicide:
Martinez Cotto
DLH Pacquiao
Maidana Morales (Morales ring age)
Leonard Hagler (past prime Leonard)

ya, keep convincing yourself its gonna be an exception, and that everyone else has got it wrong
lol, you want a list of fights the majority got right? would be loooooooooooooong
and wtf cotto-martinez was really close odds, but ya, im sure we can count on the younger mans knee being so weak

Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
Point is, it can be done. Spence isn't an invincible God.
Many thought Martinez was too much for Cotto. And we don't even have the odds for Spence Garcia. It might not be a 10-1 like you think it will be. Henry Armstrong is rolling in his grave on the limitations put on fighters today.
Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
cotto vs martinez was seen as competitively matched, certainly much more so then this. martinez had looked awful and old before and was down vs murray and many thought murray won
upsets happen, sometimes shocks, but dont count on it if this happens, spence will win w/o problem and overwhelm mikey. best case for mikey i see is maybe he wins some early round or two if spence starts slow, but then spence heats up and beats him up and stops him, and ppl say 'oh, mikey was very game in defeat'
but winning or being really competitive? nah. mikey is coming up a fifth division to face a far bigger, younger, excellent strong fighter. he hardly looked phenomenal or that strong at 140. if hed utterly destroyed an elite guy at 140 the way pac did to hatton then id be more open to the suggestion

Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
Then by your assertion, Pacquiao should've stayed at 130 struggling with Morales. And what was Henry Armstrong thinking as a natural featherweight taking on the best welterweights? Thank God Armstrong didn't listen to your advice.jamamb wrote: ↑01 Aug 2018, 22:10 cotto vs martinez was seen as competitively matched, certainly much more so then this. martinez had looked awful and old before and was down vs murray and many thought murray won

im not sure why you think an exceptional case like armstrongs helps your point really. it basically highlights how rare it is
the odds arent with mikey , with very good reason

Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
Mikey is going for that rare so what is wrong with that?
And Spence isn't this invincible never can be beaten God. Floyd almost knocked him out in sparring preparing for Maidana. And guess who Maidana sparred with in preparation for Mayweather? Mikey Garcia.
Re: Errol Spence v Mikey Garcia Nov/Dec at 147
hey, go for it mikey, but you arent winning
