How good was Mike DeJohn?

Post by scorpio83 »

I would please like to know how good was former heavyweight contender Mike DeJohn based from his fights with Willi Besmanoff, Charlie Powell and George Chuvalo? To APerno, do you know how long was DeJohn's arms in reach if you please find one of his tale of the tape fights like against Sonny Liston for example?

He was a good, solid fighter. Had some power, could box a bit. Probably his biggest win was over Bob Cleroux. Also beat Bob Baker.

It would be interesting to know other facts about Mike DeJohn's career.
such as what was the highest he was ever ranked
and did he ever get close to a title shot ?
What were some of his scheduled fights that were cancelled
and who were some of his sparring partners.

As far as I can tell,Mike DeJohn was ranked in the top 10 by THE RING MAGAZINE
5 times over the course of his pro boxing career (1951-1963)
during the 1950's he was ranked no.8,no.7.no.10 and no.9
and in the early 1960's he was ranked no.10 contender.

Mike DeJohn reminds me a bit of British Light-Heavyweight Len Harvey in the way he fights.
Mike DeJohn vrs Len Harvey (in their primes) who wins ?

I believed that Len Harvey's speedy left jab would get the better of DeJohn to take a decision because Mike DeJohn was inconsistent sometimes. :box:

How long did Angelo Dundee train him anyway ?
I remember reading in Dundee's autobiography,
that Mike DeJohn didn't like doing roadwork.
He would go somewhere , return after a while
after splashing some water on his face claiming he did it.
