IBF HW Eliminator bids tomorrow. I have a question...

Post by joshj909 »

With the Pulev/Fury purse bids tomorrow for the IBF eliminator, having had Breazeale turn it down, then Whyte and Miller turning it down after the purse bids (then something about Dimitrenko), what happens if Fury does the same? Has it happened before when this many people keep pulling out of purse bids for an eliminator?

It's unclear who would be next as Takam is next down the IBF rankings but that's going to change at some point this month. But at what point do the IBF (or any other org if this has happened in the past) just say Pulev can have the mandatory spot? he hasn't fought for nearly a year and a half and this has been happening for 5 months already.

They probably go to the next available contender and then by private negotiation rather than purse bids. They may need to go outside their top 10 to find one. With AJ, DW and Tyson Fury all great fights, next fight and the one after equals perhaps nine fighters tied up.

The amount that was bid for Pulev-Miller was a lot. Easily Miller’s biggest payday. Thing is, no one wants to go Bulgaria.

I feel fury will take it because i think its by far his best shot at a big pay day ( If he becomes mandatory ). Pulev hasnt fought in 18 months, and hasn't had a good win in years. Times a bitch, i think fury probably out points him, only problem with that strategy is in Bulgaria maybe fury out points him in the ring, but not on the scorecards.
But seriously what the fornicate else dose fury have going on, after that fight with parker people are avoiding him 1, becuse he is slick 2, because there is no reward in rankings or credit, and 3, because he makes boring fights and dosent help you build your fanbase. Cant see him getting anyone good soon without taking this fight.

Crazy from the IBF as Hughie hasn’t beaten anyone of note whatsoever to warrant an eliminator . One thing is for sure though the Fury’s will travel and fight anyone anywhere! Pulev is keen for the fight to take place in Sofia, that won’t be a problem if Fury’s decide to take it.

I hope that Pulev can finally land a fight, and Sofia - my home town - would be the best! Like the man said above, time's a bitch. Why has it been so long since Pulev has fought?

PS Meanwhile younger brother, Tervel Pulev, a cruiserweight, is 11-0 with 10 ko's.

The reason why fighters keep rejecting opportunities to face Kubrat Pulev in the IBF final eliminator, is because the Bulgarian is entitled to a 75% split of the purse total.

So if Team Pulev (in the form of Epic Sports) keeps winning the purse bids, I can’t imagine that many world-rated title challengers are willing to risk losing a highly-lucrative title shot (for one of the other belts) in order to participate in an IBF final eliminator for a bout taking place on foreign soil, whilst receiving a relatively small purse (i.e. only a 25% split).

Here’s an extract of the IBF’s rules that explains what happens when fighters refuse to participate in their final eliminators:

9.C. Refusal to Participate
Should either contender decline to participate in negotiations or refuse to accept the terms of a purse offer, his ranking will be dropped to below #10 for at least six (6) months and the next boxer in line will be offered the opportunity to enter the elimination process.

After the essential terms of the elimination bout have been agreed upon by the two camps, should either contender refuse to participate in the bout, his ranking shall be dropped to below #10 for at least six (6) months, however, if he was already ranked below #10, he shall be removed from the rankings for at least six (6) months. The remaining boxer in the elimination bout shall then begin negotiations with the next leading available contender.

Every time a fighter refuses to participate in the IBF’s final eliminator, he’ll be dropped from their top-ten ratings and replaced by another previously lower-ranked contender. The IBF will then order a bout between Pulev and the next available contender…

Lather, rinse, repeat… until the end of time.

Looks like we will eventually see a 46 y.o. Pulev vs the number 2 heavyweight from Bulgaria in an IBF eliminator then
