Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. wants Sergio Martinez again. The same guy who handed Junior his first defeat with a one sided decision way back in 2012.
And Maravilla, who has been retired since he suffered a 2014 beat down and lost his middleweight crown against Miguel Cotto, has agreed.
Martinez says he wants to square off with Junior in November, insisting it's the only fight that can lure him out of retirement.
The ex-champ is now 43. Chavez is 32 and hasn't fought since his no-show performance against Canelo in May 2017.
Chavez supposedly has a catchweight match with Sergio Mora slated for September although the Latin Snake seems unaware of it.
Chavez-Martinez 2 probably wouldn't have the same appeal as the original, which drew around 500,000 PPV buys. But fans always love to see old timers fight, so maybe there's still an audience for it.

I'd rather see Chavez/ Mora. imo, the extremely shopworn Martinez shouldn't be in the ring at all.
Re: Chavez Jr., Maravilla Martinez Eager for Round 2
Don't really get why Martinez would do this. If Chavez Jr. puts in a decent training camp he should be able to win this time. Martinez's biggest strength as a fighter was his movement, and that had pretty much already went to hell before he called it a career, aging more years into your early 40's ain't gonna be helping his bad knees none.
I just don't see how Martinez is gonna be capable of avoiding Chavez for 12 rounds this time. Or 10...whatever it's scheduled for.
Good for Jr. I guess that he's gonna get the chance to avenge his loss.

wth those legs serg will need to be wheeled to the ring
Re: Chavez Jr., Maravilla Martinez Eager for Round 2
I thought Martinez knees were done? There's no bringing that back once it's gone!
Re: Chavez Jr., Maravilla Martinez Eager for Round 2
Obviously not a smart move by Martinez. No need for that at all, he should regain the reason.

Martinez says he feels great. His knees are fine.
Or he just needs some money.
I wonder what weight they would agree to. Junior won't come in under 170 anymore.
And if the Chavez who fought Canelo is the same one who would fight Martinez, then I'd give Maravilla a decent chance.

I'm sure his knees DO feel fine as far as simply walking, and going on with his daily life is concerned, but I doubt they're cut out for explosive movement around a Boxing ring anymore...in fact I know they're not.SenorPipino wrote: ↑11 Aug 2018, 11:35 Martinez says he feels great. I'm going to assume that Martinez has been in the ring, probably done some sparring, and is basing how he feels on those gym sessions.
The fight is unlikely to come off anyway. Martinez, at 43, will probably suffer a gym injury if he keeps at it and will wisely decide not to return.
And you know Junior. He talks and talks about future fights. But he seldom bothers to step into the ring anymore.
He would have to find the motivation to train a little bit, and that's asking a lot from him.
Even this discussed Mora bout sounds like a Chavez fantasy.
