European heavyweights of the 80s

Post by Thunder and Lightning »

Was the 1980s the worst era for european heavyweights?
The EBU champions of that era were:
John L Gardner
Lucien Rodriguez
Steffen Tangstad x2
Anders Eklund x2
Frank Bruno
Alfredo Evangelista
Francesco Damiani
Derek Williams

With the exception of Bruno and maybe Damiani non of them were world level in the 80s and non of them made a real serious threat to the world title.
Other decades just seem to be so much better then the 80s as far as Europe goes, an i wrong were there bright spots in there?

The 70's wasn't much better in truth although a lot of them fought for World titles at one time or another.

Agreed They are both pretty terrible decades for Europe but i just feel the 70s are a little stronger atleast more of Them were ranked in the top 10 and maybe im wrong but They just feel like more legit contenders, in the 80s there were pretty much just Bruno and Damiani, the rest were average at best.
