Former welterweight world titleholders Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter officially have a date and a venue for their fight.

Garcia and Porter will meet for a vacant welterweight world title on Sept. 8 (Showtime, 9 p.m. ET) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, promoters Lou DiBella and TGB Promotions' Tom Brown announced.

Fight hasn't got an official thread I believe.. A big 50-50 welterweight fight.

Danny Garcia: “There’s no pressure on me, I’m just going to come to fight. We can dance if he wants, but I guarantee I’m coming to bang with him in the middle of the ring. I feel I’m the stronger puncher, have the faster hands and and am the better all-around fighter…This wasn’t the first time someone has called me out and it won’t be the last. Come September 8, I will show the world once again why I am one of the best.”

Shawn Porter: “All of my abilities – power, quickness, the whole nine will help me get this victory. To beat Danny Garcia, you have to use your whole arsenal. Especially beating him in the fashion we want to beat him in. We want to look great…We have seen Danny in the ring with different fighters with different styles. You can be aggressive and beat him, you can use the ring and outbox him, we are going to use them all.”

I'd say, it's 60-40 for Garcia. Porter is tough, he can push Garcia to the limit, but Garcia is more sound technically, so I guess, he will be able to outbox Porter. It's gonna be close though.

This is a tough call. Danny seems to be a bit better than Shawn in the pocket, has really improved his defense and has pretty good punch selection. But he's not so fast on the feet, and doesn't hold a clinch or work inside that well. Shawn brings pressure and power, mauling and rough housing that's going to be problematic for Garcia no doubt. Danny likes his space and his pace, even lil shot Rios had him flustered against the ropes, but he can adjust. Porter is going to be a lot harder to adjust to. I think there will be some head clashes, elbows, low blows. And whoever is affected most by them will have the harder time. Both have great chins, a knockout is doubtful. One thing that really sticks out, Porter was able to track down fast feet Thurman practically every round and do damage. Danny had trouble most of the night trying to do the same thing. And that was a banged up Thurman. I suspect we'll get an even fight with a split decision to argue about. But I lean towards Shawn coming from behind to edge a decision.

Whoa surprised at all the Garcia picks. Porter is a nasty style for Garcia. He's like a bigger, stronger, faster Mauricio Herrera. Porter is all about roughhousing. Porter decision for me.

Garcia made the shot version of Rios look like the one from 135 lbs. Surprised that people are talking good about that performance.

Porter looks in terrific condition.....Danny has never been a stamina merchant. I like Danny’s punches better, they are clean and hurtful, he can also throw them while being hit. I was thinking porter would just be in front of him and would eat too many. He took a decent amount of damage from granados. But if focused and bull like porter shows up it could get real ugly and very taxing in Garcia who won’t hsve that clean space. Personally I don’t like porter mauling ugly style and hope he’s defeated. Just have to side slightly with Garcia.

Danny was getting walked over by Robert Guerrero when they fought, though. No way Porter will get punch-shy if not even Brook or Thurman was able to do that. I'm honestly very surprised that Garcia is the favorite at the moment on this site.

I like Porter's style. He put on a hell of a fight with Thurman. By the way, I thought Porter beat Thurman while Garcia lost a close but clear decision. I think Porter is the better fighter.

Only way Porter wins is if he bullies Garcia and doesn't let him get set.

I think Danny will be in for a physical night, but it will be fairly easy for him to outbox Shawn.

I quite like Porter as a fighter and as a guy.
I can definitely see him giving Garica major problems.

But I do worry that he takes too many clean shots on his way inside and Garcia can bang with the best of them.

garcia has pretty much only stopped or seriously hurt well faded fighters or totally overmatched ones like salka, i see him a solid but nothing special puncher

i mean porter can be caught and broner dropped him, but im not sure its a fight where porter will clearly be feeling the power throughout

its a good fight, looking through garcias record i notice a ton of notable names but so many of them were declined. similarly this is by far best opponent for porter aside from brook

Porter.

I thought he took a minimum 6 rounds off Thurman.

Garcia is good but Porter is much better.

Got to love Shawn Porter; he would fight the Devil & Wilt Chamberlain if it were possible to do so.

One of the few guys who will take on all comers, no questions asked.

I wish he had the belts, because the WW division would be enjoying it's Golden Age.

Saying that, this fight is a tough one to call.

Porter definitely has the style to unsettle Garcia, but Danny is more technically sound & if he elects to box, he should take a decision, which is what I think will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me if Porter pulled out the victory.

Good fight on paper. I thought Porter was in a good position to beat Thurman after about 8 or 9 rounds, but he didn't seem to fight with the same fire in the last few rounds. He let it slip away when another few rounds of activity would have won him the fight on my card. Hopefully he doesn't make the same mistake if he's in a similar situation with Garcia. His fights can get ugly at times but I like his attitude. I just rewatched the Thurman fight and thought Steve Willis refereed the fight really well, wouldn't mind seeing him again for this fight.

Brooklyn's Chris Colbert returns to the ring in his hometown to take on once-beaten Sulaiman Segawa in an eight-round featherweight match as he looks to continue his rise up the ladder in the talent-laden 126-pound division. The loaded card is presented by Premier Boxing Champions on Saturday, September 8 from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

Garcia vs. Porter Winner Has To Make "Two" Mandatory Defenses

The head of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, said the winner of the upcoming fight between Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter will be obliged to make two mandatory defenses.

Porter and Garcia will collide on Saturday night, for the vacant WBC welterweight title, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Sulaiman is following the guidelines of the WBC's rules, which direct the winner of a vacant world title to make back to back mandatory defenses.

Thurman was pressed to make mandatory defenses against Porter and Garcia - who were then ordered to fight for the vacant belt.

If Thurman will be healthy enough, Sulaiman says the former champion can get a direct shot at Saturday's winner.

"Thurman has the option to fight for the title if he is registering and ready," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes. "And if he is not ready, then he will be one of the mandatory challengers. On the one hand we have Andre Berto or on the other hand the winner of the fight between Yordenis Ugas and Cesar Barrionuevo."

Has anyone beaten Garcia by standing in front of him? Matthysse and Thurman could not...

I don't think that Porter can do it either. So to win he needs to outbox Garcia from distance. I don't see that happening.

My prediction. Garcia by close decision... Should be good fight :box:
