Re: Marvin Hagler Battle Royale!
play. projection. personal preference. past & present. prophecy, phantasy. Prime per prime. Tough, tough fights.Cream of the crop. Top of the pops. Majority of fights could go win, draw or loose, pinpoint close decisions, ofc if the superpunchers catch you flush more than a few times it's nighty night) If i'm forced to choose, i pick hagler (in a fairly judged bout, where the agressor/who does more damage wins) over all of them, absorbs what they put on him and walks em down. Even Monzon. Even Golovkin. Even Fitzsimmons. Ray Robinson (so close, maybe not), who knows. Toney gives him the toe to toe 15 round slip'n'dip slug'n'slapfest, would like to say toney could beat em all, love him. Love hagler. Fitzsimmons, ketchel, greb, walker what unbelievable legends. Love em.
imagine an oldtime battle royal with all of them in one ring, who wins that?
Re: Marvin Hagler Battle Royale!
Fitzsimmons: too simplistic a style for the counter punching Hagler; Fitz lands but can't put Hagler down; Hagler by late TKO (maybe cuts).James9753 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2018, 07:02 How would Hagler cope with each of these opponent at 160lbs?

Ketchel: no clue
Greb: for Hagler it's Antuofermo I again - if Vito can bully Hagler and knock him off his game so then can Greb (so they say; never actually saw Greb fight; going with written reports and legends); leans to Greb but tough call. Like Tunney, Hagler may need a second go if he is to figure out how to beat Greb.
Overlin: no clue
Robinson: a pick 'um; if Hagler connects and hurts him, Hagler finishes him, otherwise maybe Robinson by UD; no prediction, a 'no bet fight.'
Monzon: Hagler would be forced into the role of aggressor and would find Monzon difficult to move in on (more difficult then Duran or Leonard); Monzon wouldn't allow the boxing match to turn into a fight; Monzon in a boring UD.
Jones: speed puts Jones up on the score cards early, but that dimple in his chin won't get him through 15 rounds with Hagler; Hagler by late KO.
Hopkins: Which one? Early on it's Hagler by TKO in the middle rounds; later on it's Hagler in a tough SD.
Nunn: could very well steal a decision but more likely Hagler catches up to him just as Toney did; Hagler by KO.
Toney: Two counter punchers could be as boring as Leonard-Benitez; it's likely Hagler by UD with a flash knockdown for icing.
McClellan: Built like Hearns, kinda fought like Hearns; Hagler by KO.
GGG: not history yet; no opinion.

Re: Marvin Hagler Battle Royale!
Hagler possibly beats them all IMO. I think the best of Robinson could and likely would beat him but I think maybe that would be a 3, 4 or 5 fight series.
Monzon is another interesting match. I think he'd have such an edge in speed and Monzon wouldn't be able to hurt him so he'd win a decision there. Roy Jones because of speed and movement would be an issue but at 160 perhaps would lack in experience so Hagler may win a close one.
I've never seen a full Greb fight so hard to say. Greb probably is the greatest middleweight of all-time.
Those would be the one's he could lose. The rest I'd pick him as a solid favorite.

Are you talking about the same Marvin Hagler who struggled to win a close decision over fat, old, overweight lightweight Roberto Duran?APerno wrote: ↑24 Aug 2018, 13:27Fitzsimmons: too simplistic a style for the counter punching Hagler; Fitz lands but can't put Hagler down; Hagler by late TKO (maybe cuts).James9753 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2018, 07:02 How would Hagler cope with each of these opponent at 160lbs?

Yea, Leonard said it was Duran ho showed him how to beat Hagler, 'make him come to you.' Duran made Hagler look bad, bad enough to bring Leonard out of retirement. - That's why I see Hagler having a difficult time with Hopkins (later version) as well. Hagler was at his best when he could counter.Sidney Carton wrote: ↑24 Aug 2018, 17:37Are you talking about the same Marvin Hagler who struggled to win a close decision over fat, old, overweight lightweight Roberto Duran?APerno wrote: ↑24 Aug 2018, 13:27Fitzsimmons: too simplistic a style for the counter punching Hagler; Fitz lands but can't put Hagler down; Hagler by late TKO (maybe cuts).James9753 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2018, 07:02 How would Hagler cope with each of these opponent at 160lbs?

Leonard showed that intelligent boxing and speed will diffuse even a great middleweight like Hagler.
I would never draw a conclusion about a fighter's worth just based on one bout.
Pretty much every great fighter has had a night where he didn't exactly look HOF worthy.
So Hagler was less than scintillating versus Duran. And Duran looked like crap versus Laing. Even versus Zeferino Gonzalez.
They had lengthy careers. Judge fighters on the totality of that career.
An aberration in performance on occasion is actually the norm.

Leonard showed that running for your life when not grabbing and holding on (over 30 warnings from the referee to stop holding without ever a point taken away)
will "win" you a prearraanged "win" with the help of stooge "judges."
