Raymundo Beltran vs Jose Pedraza - ESPN

Post by gilgamesh »

Isaac Dogboe just had a sensational performance in the co-feature in his 1st defense of title stopping Hidenori Otake in 1. Perfect timing on a left hook that dropped Otake hard, and he rocked him badly several times after Otake got to his feet...he almost couldn't miss with the left hook.

Very exciting young Champion! I've quickly become a fan of this guy. He's damn fun to watch.

Otake either wobbled or hit the deck with every punch Dogboe landed.

He did go 12 with the aggressive Quigg a few years back, so it's not like Otake has a reputation for having a suspect chin.

So while Otake didn't figure to truly challenge Dogboe, it was a scintillating performance by the champion.

Do you have an explanation why Pedraza is going into tonight's fight as the favorite?

He's listed at about the 5-7 choice. Pedraza didn't look all that special against Davis. He was pretty much thumped.

Now he's moving up in weight against Beltran. Sure Davis is undoubtedly a better pure talent than Beltran.

But that performance by Pedraza against Davis makes me question that he can go 12 with the stronger champion.

Might be the style matchup. Beltran hasn't had the best track record against Boxers.

On an unrelated note. Mark Kriegel really sucks on commentary.

What took you so long to notice!

I recall when he began his commentary career at ESPN, Atlas simply took apart Kriegel for his comments.

Ripped him to shreds. You almost (almost) felt sorry for Kriegel because you knew he couldn't possibly match up with Atlas' knowledge when it came to a technical breakdown of the fighters.

Supposedly Atlas' treatment of Kriegel that night played a role in ESPN sacking him from the broadcasts.

Pedraza off to a good start here. I thought he took the first 2 rounds, and he's already opened a cut on Beltran.

Beltran's best round of the fight so far in the 4th. He's still in for a difficult night it looks like, but he's doing a bit better now.

Pedraza had a good Round 5, Beltran had a good round 6. Getting inside, and landing quite a few body shots.

4-2 Pedraza

Beltran getting inside and doing better.

But he isn't working as relentlessly as he usually does on the inside.

Beltran is 37. Has been in many wars. He could be a bit faded.

A more active round for Beltran.

Seems to be wearing Pedraza down slowly

I have Pedraza up 4-3.

Considering where the fight is, I suspect Beltran is ahead officially.

Whoa!

I have it 6-4 Beltran.

Nothing scintillating from him. Just being more physical and outworking Pedraza.

Big hook from Pedraza!

That evens the fight on my scorecard going into the final round.

Beltran took the 10th, but Pedraza closed the show in phenomenal fashion, dropping Beltran in the 11th and landing a vicious flurry to close out the fight and take the 12th emphatically.

My score would be similar. The fight felt closer, but Beltran wasn't effective enough to win rounds.

Big last 15 seconds gives the fight on my scorecard to Pedraza.

Not sure of the math but I had it even in rounds, 6-6, with the 2 point edge in the 11th being the margin of victory.

I think that's 114-113 Pedraza.

But let's see how these judges have it before the partisan crowd.

Yeah it was competitive. I could see Beltran taking maybe 2 more rounds than I gave him, but you'd have to be bending over backward to give him the fight.

We as Boxing fans are so jaded, and we always expect BS from the judges. Let's give 'em credit though. They had it right on the money tonight.
