Nathan Cleverly
Just seen a few tweets talking about Nathan Cleverly’s state of mind. Checked out his Twitter profile and it does seem to have gone a bit odd over the last couple of months. Dunno whether he’s been hacked, or is just venting a bit, but hopefully he’s doing ok?

Re: Nathan Cleverly
Ive seen a few articles on him having some meltdowns the last few months. Hope he's alright as well. Always came across a decent dude
Re: Nathan Cleverly
Looks like he is feeling a bit unloved and unappreciated.
He will just have to cry into the good money he earned and enjoy not working again.

Re: Nathan Cleverly
did he really earn that much?
Re: Nathan Cleverly
I hope he's alright. Good luck to the geezer. I enjoyed watching some of his scraps.

Enzo Mac reckons he’s been on a bender, looking at some of the replies. Hopefully he doesn’t hit it too hard.

Adjusting to normal life after a high profile sporting career can be tough.
Maybe seeing Bellew enjoying such a high profile lately is getting to him.

Cleverly had a vulnerable style. He was always throwing but it was just the case of landing. Even his fight vs. Brähmer. It was so hard to score a round for him.

Re: Nathan Cleverly
He's getting himself in a bit of a mess lately.
Towards the end of his career he was partying a bit too hard at a time when he really needed to work on what needed work on.
He went from being a decent bloke with a good sense of humour to being a bit of an arrogant twat if I'm honest.
The beating from Kovalev took a lot out of him mentally and he wasn't ever the same after that. I dont just mean between the ropes either.
He aspired to be and wanted to achieve what his mate Joe Calzaghe did, but couldn't and I think that hurt him too.
Not many people from boxing are still in touch with him.
These tweets just demonstrate the bitterness he feels at not achieving the high levels he aspired to and the lack of appreciation and recognition that he feels he deserves.
He did a bit of TV punditry type stuff but it didn't work out. There isnt room for every articulate ex world champ to get a gig on Sky and I don't think he realised that. That hurt him too.
Like loads of ex pro champs before him, he's struggled with retirement and all this drinking and what have you isn't helping him at all.
He had a great career, one that he should be very proud of. He really only lost to the best (and Fanfara) that were around and he never ducked anyone.
Sadly, there is no one around him to make him realise what he managed to achieve and why he should be very content, without the need to go fishing for praise on social media whilst pissed or ripped to the tits.
He earnt well, nowhere near as well as what people imagine but well enough, but I'm not sure he's been that wise with his spending.
It weird, because 5 or 6 years ago if you had asked me who out of Clev and Gavin Rees would go pieces and self destruct post boxing, I would have put all my money on Rees. I'm sure most would have.
But, Gavin Rees is in an amazing place right now. He's got a brilliant gym with loads of good quality amateurs and he's got more than a couple of very decent pros too. He's doing wonders up in his gym.

Some of those tweets, man.
Re: Nathan Cleverly
Jeez. I wanna believe that's a hack
Re: Nathan Cleverly
He's still young enough to screw the nut and have another go at it if he was willing to get his head down and do things properly. Towards the end I got the impression that he was doing things half arsed. Training alone and with his mate etc...
Plus he has his maths degree to fall back on should he wish to peruse a career away from the sport. Things don't have to end badly for him and I hope he gets his head sorted.

I don't think that's his real name ... I think he got it from GBS ... (or maybe Monty-Python) ...
Re: Nathan Cleverly
If youve made the sort of cash he has and not invested youd be crazy.
All of my £ (the tiny bit ive made) has went off my mortgage. If i was him id of invested heavily in property he should be really comfortable
Its prob just difficult for him being out the limelight hes still only 30 !

Hacked.
Re: Nathan Cleverly
Just checked out his twitter .....
His bird looks tidy though - although she has that self absorbed, narcissistic, selfie look that all half decent (and less) birds have these days.
She will be off as soon as he has spent all his money on them daft trainers he wears that cost £500 a pair or whatever.

Re: Nathan Cleverly
Don’t know how strong his maths degree is.
Could be sour grapes as I worked with a couple of people who were in his year at Cardiff uni and they couldn’t understand how he kept getting top marks / extra dispenceation etc when he was hardly there - given time off to train etc.
One day when handing in coursework they pulled his out and went through it and both said it was a pile of shit but he got an A.
They reckoned they were lienent on him because of the publicity he brought the uni.
Could be true, could be jealousy I don’t know.

Re: Nathan Cleverly
Some fighters go abroad and amaze us by bringing back the title, earning themselves a special place in our hearts forevermore. Other fighters win the interim WBO title against Nadjib Mohammedi. At home. Funny how nights like those don't tend to linger long in the old forebrain.
Seriously though, someone needs to sit Nathan down and explain to him that it isn't the fans fault that he opted to spend his prime fighting Aleksy Kuziemski, Tommy Karpency, Tony Bellew, Shawn Hawk and Robin Krasniqi. It isn't the fans fault that when he finally fought a genuine top class opponent, Kovalev knocked him silly. Probably didn't help his image that at one point the hometown ref actually carried him back to his corner, astounding the US commentary team. And it isn't the fans fault that when he stepped up again, Badou Jack knocked him all over the ring. British/Commonwealth/European/2x world champion of course sounds mightily impressive, and I certainly wouldn't be able to accomplish it, but unfortunately it illustrates how meaningless titles are these days, because his record simply doesn't stand up to scrutiny. At least not when put next to the best. It's sad but Nathan made his decisions, and while he at least can fondly reminisce over nights like Cleverly/Karpency, he can't seriously expect anyone else to.
