Neil Fannon. He had added a lot to Lewis Ritsons game in the last year. A really good trainer.

The vast majority of the best trainers will be in the amateur gyms up and down the country who take kids of the streets and mold them into good boxers. and better human beings.

Mick Marsden in Leeds has always gone under the radar but had produced some excellent boxers , Noel Wilders from Castleford was European Champ & Stuey Halll ended up IBF bantam champ , currently training Darren Tetley close to shot at the British title aswell as Dave Allen . Other local trainers who have a good reputation in my area Martin Bateson & Julian McGowan.

My Opinion is the best trainer is'nt always the guy with his face in the paper , I've got two views ,

One is the best trainer , this is usually in my opinion the guy who quite often does'nt get the recognition , its the guy who takes a raw novice who walks in the gym , and teaches him , to be his personal best , Now unfortunatly not everyone is gonna be a champion , but when you get a 10 year old who loves boxing , has immense talent , and is dedicated , it can be easy , the kid listens watches and absorbs and will learn over the years constant sparring and being in the prescence of others , a kid like this can make even a bad trainer look good .

But when you get a ackward , gangly , unsportsman like kid with no confidence , zero punching power , and a fear of anything and anyone , but you teach him footwork , you give him confidence , you tteach him , to hit hard , and you supervise his sparring , so he does'nt get hurt and gradually and slowly builds a resistance to punches , you watch that kid become an important member of the gym , and you , take him to his first fight , with the WHOLE gym showing up to support him , win or lose it does'nt matter , you done your job , a good job , , and if that kid finishes boxing at the top of his game , the best he can personaly be , well it doe'nt matter if he was a world champ , an ABA champ , or just finisheing with a 1 win 1 losss record , if he has reached HIS own personal heights , then YOU ARE A GOOD TRAINER , because if you can do that with him , training the naturaly talented kid is easy .

Then there is the 2nd guy , someone who may not be a great trainer , but a great cornerman , a guy who can warm you up in the dressing room , and make you go out there feeling like superman , a guy who will tell you this opponent is gonna come out and throw a big left hook , and you trust its gonna happen , cos your cornerman has spotted or knows something , A good cornerman will spot in a second where and what your opponent is open for and tell you , these guys are invaluble especielly in the pro's , For example my old trainer taught me something , quite often if you don't know your opponent , a southpaw wil warm up orthodox to try and catch you out , , my old trainer would try an get a glimspe of him , i said to him a few times no point they will warm up orthodox , he would say , does'nt matter , watch him get outof a seat , and what foot he leads of with ,, and more often than not the wily old fox was correct ,

If you have a trainer who can teach , and be a good cornerman you have a VERY GOOD TRAINER ,,

tHEN THERES A 3RD , AND QUITE OFTEN THIS GUY IS NOTHING MORE THAN A CELEBRITY TRAINER , HE HAS GOT A GOOD NAME BECUASE HIS CELEBRITY STATUS HAS ENNEBLED HIM TO PINCH THE GOOD FIGHTERS OTHER GOOD TRAINERS HAVE PRODUCED

this will always come out in the wash , because sooner or later , he will have to produce his own fighters , then he moves on and another celebrity trainer comes in ,

A good trainer is a thief , he will watch and study everything , be an open sponge , and pick out the best info , even if its bad info , he will injest it digest it , mix it up with all he knows and keep the best bits , throw away the bad ones , and his pupils will benefit from his knoledge and willingness to learn ,

Thers a lot of good trainers out there who have took the uncoordinated , pimply kid with no confidence, and turned him into a confident , kid with a good attitude ,,, Being in charge of a top name boxer does'nt neccesarilly mean your a great trainer , of course some are , , I did have the pleasure of meeting the great Emmanuelle Stewart once , he impressed me , . Johnny lewiss from Australia impressed me , he was a great fitness coach , and very astute cornerman , who knew his boxers ,, Kosta once said about Johnny , i've had 300 ameteur fights been boxing since i was a little boy , he can't teach me anything , BUT I TRUST HIM , , and funny enough Johnny never wanted the Hatton fight , he knew Kosta's days were behind him , Fenech was never technicly a good boxer , but Johnny knew his strenghts and worked on them , he could'nt teach Fenech to be a gifted boxer , but by christ he knew how to harness the agresion and set it lose at the right time .

There are sio many aspects to training lads but theres are so many out there unrecognised who are great at it .
