will ggg or canelo ever be knocked down

Post by Bigdogsnose »

90 fights and counting (just the pros, as far as I know neither been put down in ams either) and neither of these lads have been knocked down. Rarely even stunned. Two cracking beards on them.

Do you ever think we'll see one of these hit the deck?

Canelo has took ggg's best over two fights and never looked close to going down. Ditto GGG who also took some big punches from a huge Danny Jacobs.

Maybe the most likely is GGG if he goes on too long and maybe has a cash out fight against a bigger guy. My guess is they both retire without taking a count between them.

yeah, and those knockdowns showed just how tough Froch was. Swear he was out before he hit the floor when groves dropped him. Immense powers of recovery.

Nah. They're two of the most monstrous punches in their division (and possible a few more up) and both reacted to full on hooks, straights and uppercuts like they were jabs

Canelo said he wants to box until he's around 35.. If his chin is as good as he's shown, he should be fine

GGG absorbs anything.. Never looks hurt even though he has eaten some shots. He get's hit with a big shot, give him a split second and he'd back on the front foot.

Canelo did look hurt a few times, but then managed to use tactics to avoid any further damage.

Froch was only dropped twice.

by my count

dropped by taylor and groves

rattled by dirrell and kessler (rematch round 11). also by groves after being dropped.

so dropped or rattled 4-5 times seems about right

It's hard to predict such things, but there's a real possibility of them not being down ever.

Later in their careers they will. Look at Erik Morales.

The right hand that GGG landed in the 10th really should have ended the fight right there. Some chin on canelo. Both of them roll with shots but when they do get caught they take the punch. They are both taking a hell of a lot out of each other with these fights. GGG could end up on the verge of being shot after a third war. Canelo at 28 has some milage left.

I do think we will see a third fight and I think we need a third fight to settle it once and for all. I wouldnt be surprised to see canelo Floyd made next though.

I think the most stunned I’ve ever seen Canelo was when Cotto’s brother hit him with a big counter shot against the ropes. That was years ago tho, obviously.

ggg is already pretty late in his career i imagine, and personally i dont think he really rolls well at all, his head is actually rather stationary and he often uses his face for defense

canelo though, i wonder what weight hell end up at. age + bigger guys things can defo change, but clearly hes got a top grade chin

Depends on how long they hang around. If you stick around long enough you'll eventually go down no matter who you are pretty much. I wouldn't count on it anytime soon in their futures though.

Maybe if he fought a big, heavy drainer from the higher weights (assuming he does go above 160).

I'd be absolutely stunned. Mayweather against the now-much-bigger judges' favourite with zero chance of a knockout...

Sounds like a modern Ketchel-Johnson to me.

Think it depends if Canelo moves upto super middle but dont think there is any huge punchers up there. He seems quite heavy handed but his name escapes me Jose ubhdjdksbchxjd or something.

He won't be the bigger man he has been in all his fights. Be interesting to see how his chin holds up but its shown to be special so far.
