I really do hate the alphabet situation. I just can't...and don't see the point sometimes...in keeping track of the shifting deckchairs on various Titanics. But of necessity, sometimes I actually need to know what has gone on.
Regarding Winky...he was undisputed but fights Mosley again just for the WBA version. Why?
IBF have Verno Phillips...but why was Wright stripped? I just can't remember. And the WBC, although they have him as champ, have an interim champ. Why isn't the November date for the WBC belt?
Any info welcome. I'm with Barrera on all of it!
Winky Wright title situation?
Re: Winky Wright title situation?
IBF rules don't allow an immediate rematch of a title fight to go ahead if a mandatory challenger is in place. (I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find examples where this has been waved).Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:IBF have Verno Phillips...but why was Wright stripped?
Wright chose to honour a rematch clause in his contract with Mosley rather than face IBF #1 Kassim Ouma. Wright made it clear he wanted to make as much money as possible from the remainder of his career.
Ouma was the due to face Verno Phillips for the vacant title, but had to pull out injured, allowing Phillips to beat Carlos Bojorquez for the belt.
Phillips subsequently lost to Ouma in his first defence.
