Manny Pacquiao vs. Adrien Broner - January 19, 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, he's going to return on a date in January - and his next opponent will be four division world champion Adrien Broner.

The 39-year-old Filipino boxing icon said the fight with Broner could be held either on Jan. 12 or 19, likely in Las Vegas.

According to Spin.ph, Pacquiao made the announcement on Wednesday night when he was introduced as the latest ambassador of International Sports Promotion Society at Makati Shangrila Hotel.

"Broner, Adrien Broner," said Pacquiao when asked by Spin on who he's going to fight next. "I think either January 12 or 19."

There has been heavy speculation overseas that Pacquiao would first face Broner and then move on to a second fight Mayweather, who decisioned the Filipino star in their first meeting in May of 2015 - in a fight that broke all financial records and generated well over half a billion dollars in revenue.

Any clue if there's any actual contracts signed or is Pacquiao talking off the cuff again.

Just a month ago Pac was slated for a fight with Mayweather after a holding a 5 minute chat with him on some Tokyo street.

Right now Pac-Broner sounds as solid as Wilder-Joshua was a few months back. Or Spence-Garcia.

A good matchup of the yesterdays elites. A worn out by tough battles warrior against a blown talent. I guess, Pac will take the decision. Broner is too lazy, he will be majorly defensive, he will survive and won't do enough for winning.

 I like it. Competitive. Could go either way, if Broner comes to fight.

Pacquiao-Broner Press Conferences Set For Monday, Tuesday

Now that Manny Pacquiao has wrapped up his trip to the United Kingdom for speaking engagements at Oxford and Cambridge, the Filipino boxer/senator has scheduled another trip abroad.

The boxer/senator will fly from the Philippines later this week for two press conferences next week to promote his upcoming fight against Adrien Broner.

Sources have informed BS.com that the Pacquiao-Broner bout will be officially announced at a press conference Monday in New York. Another Pacquiao-Broner press conference is set for Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Pacquiao-Broner is scheduled for January 19 in Las Vegas. It’ll be distributed by Showtime Pay-Per-View.

A deal for the venue hasn’t been solidified, but Pacquiao-Broner probably will take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs) and Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs, 1 NC) will fight for the WBA world welterweight title Pacquiao won from Lucas Matthysse nearly four months ago. The 39-year-old Pacquiao rejuvenated his Hall-of-Fame career by knocking out Argentina’s Matthysse (39-5, 36 KOs, 1 NC) in the seventh round July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Broner looks fat!!

A few years ago, it would have been decent.. it all in all, it's not a bad match up still, knowing Pacquiao's style and even Broner can fight.

I think this is a better late than never..

Hoping it's on ITV.. Imagine!!

Entertainment value high, sporting value nonexistent.

Still if anyone deserves a few testimonials, it's Manny.

I like this purely because I think it’s another L for Broner and I’m not a fan of his character.
I think Manny still has enough in the tank to catch up with Broner.

Actually, Broner isn't looking as scummy around Pacquiao as he usually is. It's a solid fight. Pacquiao is ancient in boxing years.

He looked amazing against Matthysse, but Matthysse was never on Pacquiao's level, neither is Broner. Still, Broner is less war-torn than Matthysse was going into the Pacquiao fight.

Broner: Glad Roach Is Back, So We Can Get This Thing Shakin'

Adrien Broner took his often-crude comedy routine way beyond the line of common decency Tuesday.

Broner often tells jokes during press conferences, some of which fall flat. While promoting his upcoming pay-per-view fight against Manny Pacquiao, however, the crass Cincinnati native tastelessly made fun of famed trainer Freddie Roach, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease.

Broner made the uncouth comment during a question-and-answer session with Showtime’s Jim Gray toward the end of a press conference at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Gray asked Pacquiao about bringing back Roach to help train him for the Broner bout, as detailed in the exchange below.

Gray: You’re bringing back Freddie Roach, a Hall-of-Famer.

Broner: Oh, you’re bringing Freddie back?

Pacquiao: Yeah.

Gray: You’re bringing back Freddie Roach as a trainer, in your corner. What was the decision?
Pacquiao [to Broner]: You scared?

Broner: Nah, I don’t have nightmares. I don’t have nightmares.
Pacquiao [to Gray]: Freddie is always – include him to my team. So we never lost Freddie. He just, he need to relax sometimes. And now we need Freddie.

Broner: I happy he bringin’ Freddie back.
Gray: Why?

Broner: Sh*t, so we can get this thing shakin’.

Broner’s obvious, offensive reference to the involuntary tremors Roach endures due to Parkinson’s disease was met mostly with jeers from reporters and others in attendance Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Broner, in a failed attempt to play off what his comment meant, responded to the backlash by asking, “What?”

What has that bum Broner done to deserve an internationally spotlighted big money fight like this?

Beards (face cushions) in boxing is getting completely out of control now. Throughout the history of boxing, until a few years ago, beards were not permitted.
