Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
This Friday on allegedly Hooker makes the first defence of his WBO Super Lightweight title against unbeaten slugger Saucedo whos coming off a FOTY contender against Zeppavigna, ive seen a lot of Saucedo he's always fighting on the big Top Rank cards and he's always stood out, purely because his gung ho style, he always comes to have a tear up and he punches with serious spite, no real thought on defence and he is liable to mark up which will prove his undoing at the top level, he reminds me of Gatti a bit
Hooker coming off a good away win against Flanagan, I thought he deserved it, he looked good put his shots together nicely, he's put that draw with Perez to bed and I probably make him the favourite here despite going into Saucedo's back yard, I suppose there's a chance Saucedo might be too hot to handle for Hooker early on and blow him away early, he definitely punches hard enough and Flanagan hurt him at one point but I think Hooker could fiddle his way around, time Saucedo's early attacks and pull away for a decision, busting up the crude Saucedo along the way
Good clash of styles though, as I say Saucedo's cut from the Arturo Gatti mould, I cant see him ever being in a dull fight

Aye me too man, I was reading about Saucedo tonight in this months BM and they made the Gatti reference as well, I think this will be a good fight, wouldn't surprise me to see Saucedo catch Hooker cold either
Re: Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
Aye a fancy Saucedo's pressure to overwhelm Hooker. I thought the Flanagan fight flattered him a little. Interesting match up.handsofstone wrote: ↑12 Nov 2018, 16:29Aye me too man, I was reading about Saucedo tonight in this months BM and they made the Gatti reference as well, I think this will be a good fight, wouldn't surprise me to see Saucedo catch Hooker cold either
That Lithuainian dude who's poleaxing every cùnt is on the u/c as well against an undefeated guy I've not heard of

Re: Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
The purse bid was held at at the World Boxing Organization headquarter offices in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Top Rank, who promote Saucedo, submitted a bid of $1,625,000.00, and Hearn - who handles Hooker - put in a bid of 1,555,000.00.
Based on the purse bid..
Hooker is going to make $1,218,750 and Saucedo is making $406,250 ..
I don't think Hooker cares who won the purse bid. As long as his pockets are being filled.

Re: Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
Well as expected it was a war, Hooker stops Saucedo in the 7th, Saucedo had him down in the 2nd with a big overhand right, even in the 1st you knew this wasn't going 12 rounds, both guys were throwing bombs and were landing a fairly high percentage straight away but after getting put down Hooker started to find his rhythm jabbing the head off the easy to hit Saucedo and landing the straight right counter time and again, Saucedo did have a good 6th as Hooker lay on the ropes as Saucedo tore in about him, even though he was missing a lot he was bullying Hooker up close, Hooker did seem to hurt Saucedo right at the end of the round though
Coming out for the 7th Hooker was back in the groove and Saucedo just couldn't avoid any of the punches and by now Hooker was really planting his feet and going to town, he nailed Saucedo with a massive right hand which dipped the legs and sent Saucedo crashing into the ropes for a count, he was still badly hurt and Hooker showed class and great finishing instincts to get Saucedo out of there almost immediately, the ref stepping in as Hooker teed off on Saucedo with lefts and rights
Saucedo is a brave mofo and game as hell but you cant compete at the top level if you have no regard for defence, he's a human punchbag and you worry about his longterm health if he carries on fighting without some serious changes in his style
Hooker for his part showed a lot to like, another win in his opponents backyard, survived an early knockdown and showed heart, skill and top class finishing, the Perez draw well and truly behind him

Re: Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
Well impressed with Hooker. Was busy, changed direction very well and that confused Saucedo. He struggled to pin Hooker down. Counter punched well and got in first time and time again. Part from the knockdown and the spell Hooker was on the ropes Saucedo was pretty disappointing. Hooker looks to be improving with each fight. Excellent finish....

Want to see a Hooker/Ramirez unification with the winner fighting the WBSS winner next year

Bit naughty from the Lithuainian dude hitting that guy when he took a knee. I think if he beat the count, the Lithuanian would have perhaps lost a point.
No doubt the ref saw it, and maybe Arriaza was hoping if he stayed down he'd get the dq win?
A messy situation really

Re: Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
Definitely mate, it happens too often for my liking, until refs start dishing out the DQs it'll carry on, that last shot Arriaza took when he was down could've made the difference, obviously we'll never know but i'd be giving the guy who never broke the rules the benefit of the doubt, Joshua used to be bad for itStuarty wrote: ↑17 Nov 2018, 09:34Bit naughty from the Lithuainian dude hitting that guy when he took a knee. Was thinking about that myself. I thought the referee could've gave him time to recover at least?WestEndRiot wrote: ↑17 Nov 2018, 11:39Certainly was. Made me wonder what the refs options are there.

Re: Maurice Hooker vs Alex Saucedo
Excellent performance from Hooker. He was fired up for this one. Those lashing right handers just could not miss Saucedo by the 7th round. Brave effort, but Hooker a force to be reckoned with now.
A unification clash with WBC champion, Jose Ramirez, would be a fight of the year contender.
allegedly have served up two belters in a month (the other being Berchelt v Roman)
