Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
allegedly have picked up this card this weekend, Bivol defending his WBA Light Heavyweight title against faded former champ Pascal, another underwhelming defence after Chilemba, fvck knows how those 2 keep getting title shots, I never seen the Chilemba fight but Bivol had to make do with a wide points win, last time I seen Bivol was when he stopped Barrera in the last round and he was good that night
Im trying to think if ive seen Pascal since getting stopped in the Kovalev rematch? He since has a close points loss to Eleider Alvarez who obviously went on to KO Kovalev to pick up the WBO which suggests Pascal still has something left and he also has a KO win over unbeaten prospect Ahmed Elbiali who I seen a couple of times on ESPN FNF cards, strangely Pascal coming into this off a 8th round KO win over a fella who was 1-0
Pascal might not be totally finished and might prove tricky for Bivol if he can use his experience at this level but I just don't think he has enough left to win against the top LHWs, I was disappointed to see Bivol maybe not stop Chilemba I know he's awkward and durable but still thought Bivol would be too strong, I never seen the fight so maybe I'm being harsh
Bivol beats Pascal comfortably for me though, he's a great pressure fighter, strong punches hard with a bit of skill, I think he could stop Pascal late, probably via corner retirement or towel
Poo fight though, Bivol's team need to up their game, its monsters row out there at 175

I think the 1-0 guy was an ice hockey player turned MMA fighter also from Quebec.
Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
what fights were out there instead that make this poo from team bivol? kov and alvarez are tied up with each other with a mandatory rematch, stevenson and gvodyzk are fighting a mandatory title fight, beterbiev was already scheduled vs johnson and didnt want another fight this year, bivol already beat barrera
pascal last year won 4-5 rounds off alvarez and battered a favoured unbeaten prospect, its not too bad of a fight, pascal is very experienced and also a former champ with a name at the weight
barrera +chilemba+pascals a decent year. ive seen talk of bivol vs beterbiev next year on dazn, would love that, dazn has made an offer to alvarez too i think

Bivol's team said they wanted a 'name fighter' on their record. A recognisable name. Pascal had a good fanbase, especially in Canada. They will try to attract even more fans Bivol's way and they using Pascal's name to do so.

Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
This'll be another painful hiding for Pascal. Why the fukk is he still fighting!
Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
last year he won like 4-5 rounds vs in a majority decision loss to alvarez and thrashed an unbeaten prospect, why do ppl act like hes totally shot? hes only lost to elite fighters
Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
He's a decent gatekeeper type nowadays but he's no business being in the ring with Bivol at this stage IMO. He's gonna take a beating. He's not had a decent win of note since Bute years ago has he.
Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
elbiali was a decent win, that guy was unbeaten and getting some good backing and tv appaearnces. i think he was actually favoured to beat pascal or it was close to even odds. pascal beat him in his backyard too, a total drubbing
he did well vs alvarez last year too and won his fair share of rounds in a majority decision loss. and look at alvarez now. pascal clearly can fight a bit still and pretty much every top lhw was tied up and not an option for bivol
i really dont know why ppl are talking it up like its total trash and that bivols team stunk it out with this

Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
I just don't think it'll be competitive and Pascal is gonna get a beating is all. We'll find out on Sun morning I suppose.jamamb wrote: ↑21 Nov 2018, 09:59 elbiali was a decent win, that guy was unbeaten and getting some good backing and tv appaearnces. i think he was actually favoured to beat pascal or it was close to even odds. pascal beat him in his backyard too, a total drubbing

Re: Dmity Bivol vs Jean Pascal
that may well be, i mean bivols a good fighter and may do that to pretty much all guys at lhw. but i think pascal isnt a totally shot fighter and that bivols team really couldnt have found much better given who was available. i dont think ppl should be saying bivol really sh!t it up with this, even though ya its obviously not the most interesting
this type of fight to me is more like a so-so, lets get it done and move on to bigger things next year. its not horrible, but i want bivol next year stepping it up. like i said beterbiev was mentioned as a unification fight on dazn, and alvarez could be a possibility too.

Stats and Stakes
Dmitry Bivol
Age: 27

Previous Titles: None
Height: 6’1
Weight: 174 ¼ lbs.
Stance: Orthodox
Hails from: Saint Petersburg, Russia
Record: 14-0, 11 KO

Record in Major Title Fights: 3-0, 2 KO (6-0, 4 KO including interim title fights)
Last Five Opponents: 114-12-2 (.898)
Current/Former World Champions/Titlists Faced: None
VS.
Jean Pascal
Age: 36
Title: None
Previous Titles: WBC light heavyweight (2009-11, 4 Defenses); Lineal/Ring light heavyweight (2010-11, 1 Defense)
Height: 5’10 ½
Weight: 174 ½ lbs.
Stance: Orthodox
Hails from: Laval, Quebec, Canada (Born in Haiti)
Record: 33-5-1, 20 KO, 2 KOBY
Press Rankings: #9 (BoxRec)
Record in Major Title Fights: 4-4-1, 1 KO, 2 KOBY
Last Five Opponents: 88-10-2 (.890)
Current/Former World Champions/Titlists Faced: Carl Froch L12; Adrian Diaconu UD12, UD12; Chad Dawson Tech. Dec. 11; Bernard Hopkins D12, L12; Lucian Bute UD12; Sergey Kovalev TKO by 8, RTD by 7; Eleider Alvarez L12
The Case for Bivol: Bivol can appear at times, so far, like a total package. He’s got a hard left jab, puts combinations together, counters well, has good balance, and can crack. While he’s not unhittable, he’s also not reckless. He’s got quick hands and feet, allowing him to get in and out on opponents while keeping that constantly wary of his firepower. Against Pascal, establishing the jab early will be critical in upsetting Pascal’s hopes of throwing off his rhythm. At his best, Pascal’s awkwardness could make him seem more vulnerable than he was before the Canadian favorite was able to strike with bursts of offense. The older Pascal beat Elbiali by using the younger man’s aggression against him, saving energy and busting him up in close. Bivol can fight his best fight by forcing the action to be at his pace and forcing Pascal to expend energy early and often.
The Case for Pascal: Even in the Elbiali upset, Pascal’s legs looked sometimes unsteady. His best chance to win against Bivol is to suck him into a messy fight. Clinching and working the free hand will provide chances for blind shots. If he elects to fight at range, he’s going to have a difficult time stopping the jab. Pascal’s best hopes are for an ugly fight where he can steal rounds, draw on his experience, and frustrate Bivol. Protracted battle will bring a long career’s many miles to the surface quickly.
The Pick: Pascal made a hell of a career for himself by relying on speed, great reflexes, toughness, and better than average power. As he’s aged, the first two of those have declined and that meant they couldn’t cover for defensive deficiencies anymore. Bivol is the sort of steady, sharp, powerful young fighter Pascal has probably aged past being able to compete with. This might have some entertaining moments early on but it feels like what it probably is: an emergent talent adding more name value than competitive value to his resume. Bivol is degrees better than Elbiali and there will be no upset here. The pick here is Bivol by stoppage.

Madrimov in a 10 round debut, for some WBA trinket, weighed in under the Light Middleweight limit, opponent weighed in at 157lbs or so....lets see if the Uzbek is worthy of that type of challenge! That's a Lomachenko esque debut

Pascal is very game but I don't see it going the distance, Pascal was knocked down but it was ruled a slip. They keep losing the picture apparently a bad storm cloud above the stadium

Buncy and Barry asking for Yarde v JP next year, JP is past his best but that would still be one hell of a step up! Hope it happens
