skeleton of 19th Century "Bare-Knuckled" Boxer unearthed in London

Post by Caractacus »

The bones were unearthed with 100 other bodies in an old cemetery in South-West London dating back to the 1830's.

Did you notice the top of the Bare Knuckle Boxer's skull ?
The top of the skull was cut around to remove the brain after he died.
It had obviously been dissected by surgeons before being buried.
So he may have died in the ring or possibly hanged.
and then his body sent to the Anatomist.
(unless the "Resurrecctionist" (Body Snatchers)had dug him up after he was buried and put his body back.

someone in the other thread in the "off-Topic" forum
reports that the archaeologists are also searching for the skeleton of a famous Bare-Knuckled Boxer,
Bill:"The Terror" Richmond
who was buried in another graveyard (which was used from 1790 to 1853)at St. James Garden in North London
.
