Canelo Alvarez vs. Rocky Fielding on Sky Sports - 15 December 2018

Fight will take place on Regular Sky Sports.

Surprised there has been hardly any hype from Sky Sports. Correct me if i’m wrong but I don’t think Canelo has appeared on Sky Sports before?

I know it’s taking place in the early hours, but still though i’d see more hype for it.

Just glad it’s not PPV.

I interviewed Fielding for Boxing News. It in this week’s edition. He sounded good. Obviously he knows it is a huge challenge but he had to take it. Fielding turned over without any fanfare, won Prizefighter at short notice and did the same for his world title fight, five weeks or so, and after grabbing his opportunity he is going to be the fifth British fighter to have a crack at Alvarez, and it is taking place at an iconic venue. It would have been silly to turn it down.

I haven't seen many adverts at all on Sky about this fight, which is surprising considering it's Canelo. Thankfully it isn't PPV though, nothing surprises me anymore in that regard.

I’m sure Canelo would have been on Sky Sports before - surely either the Hatton or Rhodes fights were on Sky?

Plus the Rhodes and Hatton fights were yonks ago.

Pretty sure the Hatton fight was on Sky, if I remember rightly.

Yeh, he wasn’t really the most well known boxer back then. Still coming up a few ranks. His status is much different now than it was then. I’m really surprised Sky haven’t hyped it. This will be the first of many fights for him on Sky i’m Guessing. I know his deal is with DAZN and NOT Matchroom, but i’m Guessing with the affiliation between DAZN and Sky, Sky will have first dibs.

He knows he'd have to KO or stop Alvarez. After CJ Ross produced that 114-114 against Mayweather it became clear to most peope in boxing that if you go the distance with him you are going to be up against it when the cards are totted up.

One of two outcomes, body shot stoppage in 2-4 rounds or Fielding makes it ugly as hell throwing a 1-2 then grabbing and smothering, in which case body shot stoppage in 6-7.

I say body shot around mid to late rounds. He might have to chop the big guy down slowly.

Hearn says Fielding is earning 7-figures for this. That’s him set for life. Don’t be surprised if he retired after.

Some boxers just want that big payday and that’s it.. no more risks. Invest the money nicely and you're Set.

Bellew used majority of his first Haye purse on properties. He said he was set for life after that. It was all gone. His purses for Haye II and Usyk were just bonuses.

Ive gotta say when I seen both men head to head at the press tour a few months ago the size difference was even greater than I thought, it did give me food for thought a little but truth be told I just cant see Fielding winning this, as good as he was against Zeuge we're talking massive difference in levels here, even though he pulled off a big win away from I still think he struggles with confidence especially early on in fights, Alvarez isn't the quickest starter either usually and I cant think of anytime he's blown away anyone early, he did start the Golovkin rematch faster than usual but I still had GGG nicking it in the end, either way it was a much improved performance from Canelo

As much as i'd love to see Fielding go over there and impose himself on Alvarez I just cant see him having any success at all even with his size, Canelo's a clever patient boxer and will probably be content to box Fielding for the first few rounds, working the body and breaking him down before stopping him midway, I just hope Fielding gives a good account of himself, doesnt freeze and imposes himself on Canelo, the chances of Fielding outpointing him are near zilch

His counter-punching as well. Fielding will likely come forward and try to box.. but Canelo is always gonna be the better boxer. He’ll find Fieldings body.

What shot was it that Callum Smith dropped Fielding with?

A lot of shots. Was a flurry of uppercuts/hooks to head and body...

With these types of fights I always think, let's face it, Fielding can't win on points and if by a miracle he goes the distance, it will hurt, a lot. It's only a matter of time 'til he gets taken out so why prolong it? If you did a Tyson and absolute flew at the opponent from the bell and take him by surprise/catch him cold. No one does that, really, ever. Catch 'em cold. What's the worst that can happen? KO'd with a counter in round one? Well that's likely to happen anyways

Rocky will try to box and it won't work, he will miss and be countered all night long

I can imagine Tony turning up to collect the rent in person and boring his tenants senseless by explaining that the money will be used to put food on the table for his wife and kids etc

1/3 on a Canelo stoppage does look like buying money I must admit.
