It is a good step up.. Barrera is one of thest LHW's outside the world champions no doubt..

He's only lost to Ward and Bivol.. made them both go rounds..

Obviously he's aging.. Cubans do okay with age though.. Massive experience..

Could be too much for Yarde.. There are other step up fights he could take that he's have more of an even chance of winning.. This fight he'll be a heavy underdog.

Barrera is clearly world class thought he done very well in the Bivol fight, if this happens can see Yarde finally going the full 12 rounds

I wouldn't call him world class.. He's definitely a world contender.. outside the top 5 type of boxer..

Odd one: not fighting any of the best guys at British/Euro level and then taking a guy in the world top ten for first step up.

Surprising, barrerra is miles above the levels of any other guys he's fought..

Least he's took a decent bout

When they are touching gloves.

That’s when I’ll believe this fight is on for Feb 2019.

He's got a real chance here to show people he is a good fighter... I don't think he is a good fighter tbh at all, but he's got a chance here to try and prove people wrong

Whether he takes that chance or not....

Agreed - I’d be amazed if this fight happens in February. I’d it does my money would be on Barrera.

Madness to fight Barrera when he could win the British outright in some domestic crackers.
That's like graduating - then you go on to world scene as a fully-fledged 12 round fighter.
Builds a bit of a fanbase too.

hope it happens, i actually wouldnt be shocked because sullys been down several times , esp early, and they may think hes there for yardes power. and yarde hasnt been moved nearly as slow as ppl think, 2 years in he fought a guy who had just drawn for the ebu , he still would only have like 3.5 pro years vs barrera.

but zomg sullys not british, yarde needs to fight hos burton and buglioni first!! i kid i kid

erm "zomg" - :maybe: I like it tho'

I'm not saying that he HAS to fight all the Brits first, (and Buglioni has retired - bless him). It's just that there are some great learning fights while picking up a prestigious title. Fights that will be decent main events in their own right. Hostile atmosphere fights, and fights that will make good money too.

Yarde vs Johnson for the British title in a packed 'away' arena on normal Sky - mouthwatering :box:

I don't think if there's any truth to that, it will be good match making. Barrera is getting on a bit, but I don't think he's shown signs of significant slidage.

He's still a very good fighter. I wanna see Yarde step up and stop fighting cans, but it should an intelligent step up in competition ie British title or even European title level.

Not going from fighting absolutely no-one to fighting one of the very best in the division, without any kind of gauge as to how he'd manage that level of competition.

At this stage of his career, based on who Yarde has fought up to this point, putting him up against Barrera would be a complete jump into the unknown. He could get absolutely destroyed and his career ruined ala Jeff Lacy style (although even Jeff had beaten some half decent fighters before fighting Calzaghe).

I'll be very surprised if this goes ahead. Fair play to Yarde if it does.

It seems to this poster that Yarde was being touted as the 'next best thing' not too long ago. Not being familiar with him, what happened that made quiet his backers? Is he for real or not?

I'm just asking a question. Not at any particular poster. "It seems to this poster (I.E. me)."

even just 2 years into his pro career , stopping guys who drew for the ebu right before, ppl were trashing him as a can crusher. that has always been louder then the big thing hype

ppl have been weird with him, like hes some hugely experienced amateur who shouldve fought top guys right away . they also act like hes been a pro for way longer then he has

Thanks Jam. So what is the truth? I don't want to waste my time watching his fights and highlights at this point, if he's just a never was who will never be.
