When was Dereck Chisora in his prime?

Post by OH_RickNMorty »

Hi all, like the title reads — “When was Dereck Chisora in his prime?” — when was he in his prime? I want to watch some of his “good fights” but I don’t know when and where to look.

Many thanks, OH. 🥊👍🏻

‘Del Boy’ was probably in his "prime" during 2010, prior to his first loss to Tyson Fury. However, since then his performances and weight have been very erratic, due to the fact that he’s either suffered losses that he shouldn’t have or allowed the betting favourite to enjoy an “easy” ride.

One could easily argue that 2018 was his “best” year, because of how well he acquitted himself against Takam and Whyte, despite being the heavy underdog in both bouts.

It’s clear that Chisora is one of those fighters that often underperforms, but is capable of raising his game to score an upset here-and-there against world-class opposition.

He was always up and down.. Prime or not.. He mostly fought the same.. He always gave it a go...

Just got out-classed by some and KO'd by a few.

I have no idea. Probably when he fought Klitschko and Haye. It's why Haye is so well regarded at HW.

Never. He has one really good performance (the Helenus 'loss' or example), then doesn't turn up the next fight. It's like really good win, win, win, doesn't turn up and loses, losing a controversial decision, has a close fight with a top fighter and repeat for whole career

Statiscally 2014 (November) he had his highest ranking. His best opponent he ever beat was Carlos Takam (2018) Malik Scott would have been the next.

Haye beating Valuev was Haye's highpoint surely.

Sam Sexton was the highest rated boxrec'er he beat.. Since then, it was Takam. Johnson was a good win, Scott was a good win..

He should not have lost a SD to Pulev.. It was clearly a loss. No way it could have been scored for Chisora.

Chisora should own a win against Helenius and Whyte IMO..

When are you updating PBO to reflect December's fights?

Keep up the good work. :TU:

He is pretty inconsistent. At his run against Fury, Helenius, Vitali he was good and was giving fights as much as he could, he even arguably won Helenius. Then he had nothing special until Whyte fight #1, when he again lost, but arguably won. Then he was outclassed by Kabayel, who had fought only journeymen and stiffs before. But last weekend he showed a good effort against Whyte.

Great post. His inconsistencies make it difficult to define his prime.

His physical peak was probably back in 2012 when he fought Klitschko, but his performance peak was a few days ago against Dillian Whyte.

For 10 rounds that was almost a Joe Frazier like performance in terms of sheer non stop action. Impressive stuff.

He blew hot & cold far too much to decipher exactly when his prime was.

Joyce; Gorman; Dychko; Dubois; Ajagba; Hrgovic; etc. Not sure how much "bucks" they will generate in 2019 but some excitement in the division hopefully.

He will probably end up with a record of something like 33-17.

He is only 34 so could easy have another dozen fights. Dereck has done pretty well financially as he is exciting to watch and very likeable, so I think the trend will continue, tough fights and gatekeeper.

Peak Del: 2011-2013.

I always thought Fran kWarren must have hated Chisora: he threw him to the lions so early, signing him to fight prime Wladimir very early in his career when he was nowhere near ready. Wlad then jerked him around pulling out twice before finally signing to fight Haye. This is why Chisora came in to fight his big domestic rival Tyson Fury in such dreadful shape the first time, with tits and everything. If he hadn't been so disheartened by the Wlad pullouts, he might have come in in better shape, but I can't call that his prime because he looked such a mess.

So 2011.... This the Helenius fight, back when Helenius was knocking everybody out and looking like a top contender. Most people thought Chisora was being sent in as cannon fodder and it was a terrible, terrible robbery and a shame. Chisora clearly beat him and got the Vitali fight, again a huge mismatch all the same, off the back of it as I recall Vitali had come out and said that he felt Chisora had won and therefore was the more deserving challenger.

Again sent out to be executed, he went at big brother hard for 12 and should have been celebrated for his bravery, only here's old I'm a Celebrity Get Me Some Limelight David Haye and his bottle. Cue many years of "he glussed me" appearing in youtube comments.

Gives Haye a good fight before being banged out.

Then after a bum or two, he stops the, at the time, still reasonably well regarded Malik Scott (albeit controversially as Scott was up at 9) in 2013. After this he does nothing particularly impressive for many years until Whyte 1. I'm a big fan of the guy, he's always blown hot and cold. But yeah, his 'prime' was about 5-6 years ago.

Maybe at that point in time, but in hindsight, I've heard more praise for his performance and win against Chisora than anything else. I've not heard anyone praise Haye for that performance against Vaulev.

Del peaks when he feels like it.
He is like a ginger tom cat. One day you call him and he comes and lies on his back so you can scratch his tummy, the next day he claws your face off.
