What's next? - Have your say

Post by Crease »

So with the disappointing news that we have received:
Fist of Legend wrote: 15 Dec 2018, 21:09its been a fun season so far but it might be at an end sadly.....the hard disc drive on my computer has unexpectedly failed and made it pretty much useless....
We have 3 options:

Option 1. (30 weeks)
Continue the season with BoxBuzz running the fights up until Week 30... Then we will run the Super Six, Silver Six & Sister Six as post-season events...

Option 2. (40 weeks)
Continue the season with BoxBuzz running the fights up until Week 40... In which case the 3 "Six Tournaments" will be run alongside the rest of everyone else's fights.

Option 3. (Stop here,)
Or, the alternative is top stop here at this juncture... In which case the 3 Six tournaments will be run as post-season events...
And preparations will be made for the new season...

Come on gents, have your say:

Obviously the situation is not ideal, It is an extremely unfortunate turn of events...
However, that is not to say that it is not damaged beyond repair...
As BoxBuzz said:
BoxBuzz wrote: 16 Dec 2018, 15:49This happened once before in the past....so their is precedent for it.
Incidentally enough, it happened in our Last HW season too...
Where Buzz took over the running of the fights and I did the admin work.

What I am saying is -
We could continue the season, with all fighters starting with their default records in the TitleBout game...

This would mean that those fighters who are doing well, will go back to the start.
And those fighters whop are doing not-so-well, will also go back to the start.
So on the scale of things, maybe there is a balance there with that.
:maybe:

The only downside is that the accumulated pts totals would also go back to zero for everyone, but I guess that cannot be helped.

And with every fighter's record going back to the clean slate, it then becomes even more important for Managers to update their fighters' records...

Anyway, I think that I will create a thread for the BRS public to decide our next step forward.

I'm voting Option 2.

I would like to see us push on and complete the 40 weeks of this season under BoxBuzz.
By which time, Fist of Legend might be back up and running in time for the new season?

If Buzz is game to commish the thing, I'd rather see it through to the end as I always want to with things I started of this nature.

Option 3

The rest of the season won't be the same, starting midway from scratch. Fighters lose momentum, mismanaged fighters are starting with a clean slate, etc. I've played many seasons, where I've seen good fighters have a great or ok season basically with the way they were managed and luck of the sim. I don't think we'd get a true ending based off the rest of the season starting new, IMO.

Yep...the "amalgam of the algorithms" will not be in synch, and trajectories are not "in play" when we go back to a new computer as if every fighter is beginning on the first day.

If we wanted a "quick end" to this, we could play it out in a single or a few events. I would have Ali stand down, and we could just put a final tourney into the record books. I'm good with any path we choose but geto has a point that should be pondered.

It's like herding toothpaste, or putting the cats back into the tube.

It really depends on how much time Buzz wants to put into it--- if he's courteous enough to see it through till week #40--- then I'd like to see that happen. But if it stops here I wouldn't be upset. It'd probably make more sense to start a new season.

I'm erring towards Option 3, for the reasons 'Geto stated, but I'll happily still play along if we end up continuing anyway.

If Buzz is happy with it I think Option 2 is better than 1 though.

ok, the game seems to be running fine other than some minor things that I can fix or work around, so the question remains...how should we proceed?

So the game data from this season is lost?

I myself say to start over, new weight divisions, etc. Between the break and the "continued" season starting from scratch, it makes sense to start new.

If we continue where we left off for 40 weeks, I'll have to consult my fighters on what they want to do.
