The best 'legend' you have ever seen ?
The best 'legend' you have ever seen ?
Going on from the best heavyweight you have seen I thought it would be interesting to know which 'legend' you have seen live, not on tv. I'm sure we all know what it takes to be a boxing legend so here is mine
Thomas Hearns
Saw him fight Nate Miller, incidentally Hearns only fought outside the US on 2 occasions as a professional the other time was in the Bahamas on the Trevor Berbick v Muhammad Ali undercard which wasnt the main event as Greg Page fought Scott LeDoux in the main event, and incidentally Greg Page fought once in England against Funso Banjo on the undercard of a Dennis Andries world title fight.

I would say it’s Aaron Pryor for me......either him, Alexis Arguello or Bernard Hopkins. And since I liked the Hawks style best, I’ll say him.
Re: The best 'legend' you have ever seen ?
Well I don't go to fights these days and it's questionable whether the term 'legend' is applicable (actually it's not even questionable) but I've seen the cream of UK fighters through the seventies and early eighties, the best probably Ken Buchanan, John Conteh, John H. Stracey, Jim Watt, Alan Minter, Maurice Hope, and many others.

It's a toss up between Tommy Hearns & Mike Tyson who both came to Manchester, England to fight when past their respective bests.

Mine would be a toss up between Holmes and Leonard.

Trinidad and Cotto
But there was something special about Trinidad fights in Puerto Rico. It was the equivalent of a Superbowl Sunday in the US.

Hate to admit it but the best i´ve seen live is Floyd Mayweather, the night he schooled Canelo.

This is a very interesting thread - nice work by the original poster.
My list of legends I have seen fight live are Willie Pep, Roberto Duran, Jose Napoles and Boom Boom Mancini.
Willie Pep in 1965 was making his comeback (sorry can't remember who he each fought as it was a long time ago - it was in a small town in PA). Saw Jose Napoles lose his title to Billy Backus (Carmen Basilio's nephew) in Syracuse in 1971 by 8th round stoppage on cuts. Saw Duran fight Lou Bizzaro in Erie PA in 1975 (or 1976?) and win by late round knockout to retain his title. Went to a dozen or so of Boom Boom's fights on the east and west coasts over the years.
To pick one of the fighters I identify as legends as the best, I would have to say it is Willie Pep. At the time Willie Pep was on the down side of his career but my father took me to his fight because my father was grooming me as an amateur to become "the next Willie Pep" - which of course never materialized.

He's obviously not a legend so far but Usyk is probably the most skilled fighter i have ever seen life.

Saw Marvelous Marvin Hagler take apart Doug Demmings at the Olympic Auditorium in the late 70s.
At that time Hagler was just a legend-to-be and was actually an undercard fighter that night.
Main even was Bruce Curry vs Monroe Brooks. Two guys who don't qualify as legends but still put on a helluva fight.

How pissed off were you when Canelo stood in the centre of the ring begging Floyd to fight him while Floyd danced around the ring for the last two rounds?locoxelbox wrote: ↑04 Feb 2019, 14:45 Hate to admit it but the best i´ve seen live is Floyd Mayweather, the night he schooled Canelo.
