Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
Honestly, I have never watched him, but I have been reading a lot about him, recently.
Has he the potential to become a great champion ?
What about his natural weight division ?
Is he worthy watching on YouTube (I have not a lot of spare time, and don't want to waste this time on the average fighters).
Thanks in advance !

He looks the goods. Love to see him fight god, oops I mean loma, give him a good shot of winning. Worthy of watching? Yes, his last two knockouts could be the two best in boxing in the last year.

I'm looking for Lopez vs prograis or Taylor next year. Tank would be killer, but time is too short.

I wouldn't put any 21 year old kid with just 12 fights in with Lomachenko.
He would be undressed.
Why spoil a great prospect? Arum is too wise to do it. At least for now.
For what it's worth, Lomachenko believes that Lopez would very well quit if they ever fought.
That could happen. Lopez has begun to show a bully mentality. And those kind usually don't fare well when finally challenged.

He might just bully lomachenko. The strength and power difference is massive. You're right, it's not going to happen but loma isn't a Whitaker or may weather level fighter that would humiliate him. I imagine loma would win a pretty close decision that saw him holding on at times. Lopez would massacre Linares.

Lopez is good but not as tremendous as he claims to be. Here is a recent interview from "Max on Boxing" where he claims he's ready for Loma right now and says he has "3-4 different ways to beat Lomachenko".
He dismisses Gervonta, Berchelt, etc as "flawed fighters" that he can dominate. Nonetheless, Lopez could be the first 2016 Olympian to win a major world title as a pro. But it wont be against Loma, who would school him right now.

He seems to be a little bit cocky, but, maybe, it should be so..................

No problem!! That's a brand new ESPN show that just debuted 2/8. That particular episode with Lopez was on yesterday and ESPN replayed it between fights on last night's Brant-Baysangurov telecast. ESPN is getting more serious about the fight game now that they have that Top Rank contract!!ValMar wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 18:03Thanks for the video !Best Coast wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 17:45 Lopez is good but not as tremendous as he claims to be. This morning I spent about half an hour watching him on YouTube. Very attractive style, absolutely. He has one fan more.Onetimeonly wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 14:31 He looks the goods. Best wishes, Teofimo !
Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
Lopez is pretty popular right now, if he can beat 2-3 top 20 guys, Golden Bob can make megafight from Loma - Lopez
Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?

I guess that's the closest to an apology we're going to get for that infamous 'some call it a shovel, some call it a home run' (?!) gesture.
He's obviously good, and looks strong. It's also refreshing to see such confidence and a complete lack of fear for any of his major rivals. With careful matchmaking he could go far.
Who knows, maybe in a couple of years time he might even willing to show us the 3 or 4 ways he thinks he can defeat Lomachenko?
Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
Lopez looks quality, he is still pretty unproven, but looks to have the tools to go far.
He can come across as cocky and arrogant, but that is far from unusual with fighters, particularly unbeaten, young, hyped up fighters.

He looks good against the tailor made opponents I have seen him, fight. Big unkown though when he starts fighting people who can touch and hurt him..Two or 3 times I have seen him fight he has been able to tee off against his opponents .
I would like to see him in against Loma or Tank just for the amount of talk he has put forth, time to back it up...

Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
I would like to see Teofimo Lopez Fight Denys Berincyk who is Loma's friend and Countryman, this would create a storyline as Lomachenko would be trying to avenge his Countryman's loss, Also Berincyk has outrageous ring walks, that are very entertaining, I don't know if he is good enough to be approved for a fight against Lopez or not, but it would be a good storyline same with Berincyk vs Tank Davis.
Of course since Lomachenko is Berincyk's friend he might advise him NOT to fight Lopez or Tank Davis as he could get destroyed, but Berincyk did win a Silver in the Olympics, so maybe he can fight at that level. Who knows he may see a tape of Lopez or Tank Davis and get scared.

Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
Great idea. Berinchyk has 10 pro fights and has faced some decent opposition. I think he would be competitive with Teo Lopez. I could definitely see Bob Arum buying into that storyline, since he also promotes Loma and would most likely enjoy hyping the avenge factor if Lopez beats Berinchyk.1okstcsb wrote: ↑17 Feb 2019, 17:05 I would like to see Teofimo Lopez Fight Denys Berincyk who is Loma's friend and Countryman, this would create a storyline as Lomachenko would be trying to avenge his Countryman's loss, Also Berincyk has outrageous ring walks, that are very entertaining, I don't know if he is good enough to be approved for a fight against Lopez or not, but it would be a good storyline same with Berincyk vs Tank Davis.

And if Berinchyk had any reservations about facing Lopez I'm sure Arum would pay him far more than he is making for his fights in Ukraine with a local promoter.

This kid is no hype. It's rare I get excited about a fighter of his age. His amateur background is very evident as he's well on his way to great things.

Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
I wouldnt call him hyped, but neither do I believe he is as good as he claims to be just yet. He honestly thinks he can beat Loma 3 or 4 different ways right now but I really think that is youthful arrogance. Teo has great speed and power but let's see how he does against a legit top 10 fighter before he goes against Lomachenko. Even though Lopez has almost as many pro fights as Loma, the Ukrainian has fought MUCH better opposition so far.
And while his amateur background is good, it pales in comparison to Loma, who was something like 396-1 as an amateur with OG gold medals & WC as well. Teo on the other hand lost his last 2 amateur bouts, the final of the 2016 Olympic Americas Qualifier Tourney to a Venezuelan and his very first Olympic prelim bout to the eventual silver medalist from France.
IMO Lopez needs at least 3-4 more fights against world-class competition before making a serious challenge to Lomachenko and 2-3 more before taking on Gervonte Davis. I believe Arum is smart enough to make sure he doesnt jump into those megafights too quickly.
Re: Teofimo Lopez, the next big name or another hype-job ?
hes certanly hyped, but i think hes legit, who here wouldnt already pick him vs pedraza for example
