Apparently Harrisons show isnt selling..... wonder why??

According to the BBCs website the Harrison fight this Friday is "far from a sell out" this has prompted Frank Maloney to say..

"It's important to sell out the fight not only to keep Scott Harrison fighting in Glasgow but also to keep Scottish boxing going well.

"We've got to get this so-called Tartan Army to come out and get behind him."

Well Franky speaking as a passionate member of this "so called tartan army" perhaps if you put on better, more competitive shows at locations where it was simple enough to get to, as opposed to shopping complexes on the west side out of glasgow where public transport doesnt run after 11pm and where theres no hope of getting a taxi, theres no tube station, no bus station and is situated in the middle of nowhere.

perhaps if you didnt change the dates to fridays to suit the tv companies. perhaps if you thought of the fans and insisted on them being on saturdays to allow more of us who live more than 10 miles away from glasgow to attend.

perhaps if you yourself had a bit more forward thinking in selling this show to the public, for example not putting it on at the end of a month, at a time when there have been 2 much better shows to attend in the past two weeks one of which was promoted by your own company just last week in edinburgh. perhaps if you realise that there is only a (smallish) finite boxing fanbase in scotland very few of which can afford to attend three high priced shows on three consecutive weeks at opposite ends of the country. Perhaps if the company which employs you werent so greedy to stage 2 shows in 2 weeks and expect sell out crowds at large venues each time.

Perhaps if you staged the show at a smaller capacity venue, as was originally planned using the Kelvin Hall, nicely situated right out side a tube station in the middle of Glasgow, with the tickets slightly cheaper, garunteeing a bigger crown in a smaller venue, generating a better atmpsphere, then maybe this memeber of the "so called tartan army" along with a few other foot soldiers would attend.

Fact of the matter is that the Scottish boxing community is behind Scott Harrison 100%. If the shows arent selling then look to yourself for the solutions.

I was reading the same thing in the Metro today, they quoted some (poor) sales figures but I can't remember them now. Like you say, three factors contribute to why it's not selling: naff venue, naff belt, naff opponent. This promotion could still do well at the Kelvin Hall, I really don't know the fascination with Braehead? It's okay for shopping, but doesn't quite work as a regular boxing venue.

Seriously though, I'm a BIG Scott Harrison fan, but I agree with your points completely Neil r, I've been to Glasgow to see Scott fight before but there is no way I'm travelling half way up the country for a fight such as the one coming up this Friday, the undercard is not looking to exciting either.

You can park in the shopping centre, but if you aint got a car you are fucked.

Kelvin Hall is much better, you can always start with a drink in Byres Road.

Is there not some sort of argument that asking Jocks to fork out for boxing three weekends on the spin is a bit much, especially when Kebede's record has more padding than Jordan

That is exactly what happened the last time I was there - waited for a lift that was an hour late and felt like I had pneumonia when I got home. Also, as you say, there's plenty of places on Byres Road to get a drink or something to eat before literally walking round the corner to the Kelvin Hall. Ashton Lane usually has nice Christmas lights up at this time of year too, that overhang the cobbles.

Whilst i agree the braehead arena is a complete nightmare unless one of you drive.

But if the opponent is well known and not a bum then the arena would probably be full, and the atmosphere at the McCullough fight was electric due to the large Scots/Irish fans who went and the banter between the celtic cousins was top notch.

That was a great night all round

cmon harrison has fought decent opponents, nothing like as protected as hatton or JC, medina, abelyan was supposed to be a tough fight, he is due an easy defence, jeez even Ali had those. anyone got anything positive to say on thois board lately?

Abelyan was built up by the Harrison camp as dangerous when he was nothing of the sort. Granted Harrison has not been protected to the extent of Hatton but he is hardly on the road to being a 'legend' as he claims.
To be fair though if the Chi fight comes off that will be a step in the right direction... though I'm not sure Harrison will win.

Agreed that was a great night!

and I had the bonus of a lovely blonde Scottish lass drive me there and watch the fights with me as well
