Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
It’s a shame for a sportsperson when retirement is forced upon them, because it’s a short career anyway. Given his eye problems though it has to be the correct choice, health is the number one priority
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
Tough on the lad
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
good luck to him seems like a decent nice bloke.

A very classy statement and he seems to have a really positive outlook on things. He'll be successful in whatever he does with that attitude.

Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
That’s an epic farewell statement for someone with only 12 pro fights!
Jokes aside, all the best to him, seems a nice kid and I’m sure he’ll do well with general media work.

Very dangerous, that's why even fighters I don't rate at all, fighters I'd call s**t & a waste of time,I still have a great respect for on the basis that they have the a**hole & bottle to fight in the first placekbackup408 wrote: ↑11 Mar 2019, 12:16He is a marketable lad, confident he will do well outta boxing - dangerous sport aye!

He's only a sop with no honour for the way he went on to Barry jones.
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
Anthony didn't reach the dizzy heights of stardom in pro boxing. The kid only earned £70k from his time in the ring. Not a lot when you look at the commitment.
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
And he's spent it all on surgery.
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
Wish him all the best in retirement, seemed alright, but he just wasn't cut out for the pros anyway.
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
Seems a really nice lad, comes across as a genuine guy and it must be devastating to have not been able to find out what he was really made of and what his ceiling could have been.
You'd have to be having a really quiet day at work to read all of his retirement speech though

with his record id book it as bullying

Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
Think he will have a decent enough TV career. Has done a bit of punditry and can see him growing in to that...
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
he qualified enough in the ring for that?
Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
Genuinely was sad to hear this, really did well in the Olympics. He had the right attitude, personality and skill to really do something so I am sad to see it didn't happen.
10/10 for him calling time on his own though, it's the hardest part of a professionals career and anyone else may have taken a drastic step to trying one last time to getting back in there but with walking away he won't be short of opportunities.
Coaching, Pundit work, I wouldn't be surprised if Golden boy kept him on in some sort of advisory role here in the UK, he knows the right people he knows what to look for and what characters would get attention for better or worse.
He'll be just as successful out of the ring as he ever was in it.

Re: Anthony Ogogo Officially Retires!
It is sad when a boxer is forced to retire against their wishes.
I seem to be swimming against the tide in that I don't see a glittering TV career ahead, he wasn't able to achieve enough in his career to get opportunities as a commentator etc. and a bronze medal from two Olympics ago will always be something which will make him swell with pride, but in this day and age it is not enough to get him a spot on the decent paying reality shows.

Correct decision though.
Health comes first. For reasons under his control, he was always going to struggle in the pro-ranks.
