Dear editor,
Although over my 20 plus year of being a pugilist and occasionally being blessed to grace your prestigious site, I've never submitted an inquiry of any sort to yours or any site.. So here it goes!
My name is Danny Santiago and over my 20 year span of a career I've put on a great many shows amateur and pro (in which I've been a participant a time or 2).. But on March 30th for the 1st time in 29yrs (1st sanctioned bouts in en valle de cauca! Which is where I currently spend part of my dual citizenship) I a Puerto Rican American of no Colombian ancestry! am putting on a pro/Am show In tulua Colombia with the tremendous support of having met and made acquaintances with locals and more importantly politicians .. now im not sure this is to be news worthy? But i thought it to be something or somewhat of different, im no big time promoter, nor was anyrhimg special as a fighter! (Although I did my best) I have stumbled into a oceam of as they say diamonds In the rough.. incredibly talented, hungry talentes young athletes who starve for the opportunity to not only forfill there dreams but literally put food on the table and or keep a roof over there head..
On a visit to Colombia I found myself compelled to developing Somme sort of program here called 'Boxeo y mas boxing gym' this program 2 years in the making had now developed into a home base for Colombia's finest national champions and now professional fighters..
1st arriving here seeing these young athletes training with little to no resources ( im talking paper mouth pieces or rinsing out mouthpieces and sharing them) i was unbelievably taken back by the hunger and desire to just compete, not for trophies or medals! At times if any there weren't any to compete for! But for bragging rights and the sheer pleasure and honor of competing.. and with that it gives me great pleasure of helping and promoting this show that has turned out to be an event with conformation of senators, mayors and local politicians..
My perception of Colombia before my visiting was distorted in what I saw in movies and hear say.. But it's something unbelievable and inspiring with it's people and athletes..
In any case not sure if this worthy of news? This is no publicity thing or anything! Tickets are selling and support is great, just thought it to be interesting and unique! More than just boxing..
Thank you
Have a great day and your site is great keep up the good work.
Danny Santiago.
