Mark Bennett.
Mark Bennett.
Bennett moved to 4 - 0 on Saturday night beating the durable Chris Healey who now moves to 8 -5 with a 39 - 37 points win over 4 rounds. Bennett knocked down Healey in the second with a right hand but being a durable character Healey got through the round.
Bennett is moving in the right direction for an area title fight held by Kash Ali who's next fight is against big punching David Price.
Mark Bennett has been sparring with several high profile heavyweights including David Allen who is fighting Lucas Browne shortly and has also been sparring with David Price. I asked Mark how did he find the experience sparring Price 'I was a nuisance at times but Price hits hard, he's the biggest banger I've sparred with. The experience was valuable to me mixing it up with the likes of Price and Allen has made me tougher and is building me up for the more experienced boxers I will have to face'.
Bennett came into boxing a little later than the average pro as he was a serving soldier. Bennett has fought in Afghanistan while serving in The Royal Artillery
Leaving the army Bennett was on the unlicenced circuit winning all of his 6 bouts, 5 by knock out. Turning over with the BBBoC Bennett has been enjoying his boxing experience and is training hard. Bennett beat the very durable and experienced Kamil Sokolowski last November, and it's worth noting that Kamil stopped the unbeaten Naylor Ball and took Nathan Gorman 8 tough rounds and stopped the up coming Nicky Webb. Last time out fighting Lucas Browne over 6 and getting beat by 1 point, having knocked Browne down.
Bennett is now wanting to fight Kash Ali for the central area heavyweight title but Ali has a fight booked with David Price next. I asked Mark how he thinks the Ali v Price encounter will go he told me ' Price is very well schooled, he hits very hard and I can't see Ali going more than 4 rounds, hopefully I will get a shot at the area title after that fight if Ali doesn't vacate it'.
Having got to know Mark Bennett better over the last few months I have found him a very nice lad. He's a no bullshitting type of character, what you see is what you get. Bennett is serious about the professional game and takes his training seriously. Having no amateur experience Mark doesn't have his head in the clouds and knows there are tough battles ahead.
'Im giving the pro game a go and enjoying every minute of it, I'm under no illusions how hard boxing is I'm a tough lad so let's see how far I can go'.

Re: Mark Bennett.
how does he get that level of sparring, do they contact him or does he contact them or just show up or what....
Re: Mark Bennett.
Top fighters often need to pay for sparring so if you go round the gyms offering it for free you will typically be welcome.
Do a good job and you're welcome anytime!

Re: Mark Bennett.
Seems like he’s getting some quality experience there...
Re: Mark Bennett.
well especially for a guy with no am career its a great thing to be able to get experience with guys like that
Re: Mark Bennett.
Mark is fully aware of his expectation of being a professional. He knows he has a limit and we have discussed the issue of no amateur career. Apart from the 4 fights he has had under BBBoC he has had 6 unlicensed fights and won all of them.
I think if Bennett can get an English title he would be delighted with that, but if he can carry on winning and even get to the British title level that would be his pinnacle. Coming into pro boxing with no amateur record and at his age is always going to be tough for anyone in this game, Mark is no exception in that respect.
Any boxer these days is struggling to get fights if you arent a name and dont have a big promoter behind you.
What I like about Mark Bennett is that he is a genuine lad, one of the lads you grew up with at school type with no bullshit behind him.
He's getting plenty of experience in sparring and its great to chat with him about sparring with the likes of Fury and giving his account of the session. Im not a great fan of Fury but listening to Bennett telling me how Fury is and what he actually can deliver in the ring puts another side to the man. Bennett told me Kash Ali had no chance of beating David Price after he had sparred with Price he told me that Price was a big banger and that would get Price through.
Re: Mark Bennett.
Good luck to him and seems to be dedicated and giving it a good go,
Think Lack of Amateur experience isn't as much of a hindrance in Heavyweight boxing as weve seen some very mediocre guys get to a decent level. Apart from the National Fighters / Olympian types then a lot of them aren't majorly experienced I wouldn't imagine unless times have changed.

Re: Mark Bennett.
The issue with a lot of these low level fighters, and not just in the heavyweight div is trying to sell those tickets. This is the biggest struggle for most of them who dont have a name or previous glory to rely on.funso banjo baby wrote: ↑25 May 2019, 04:34 lots of good low-level fights out there

Re: Mark Bennett.
Mark Bennett took his record to 5-0 tonight by beating Miles Willington over 6 rounds.
Willington did what most journeymen do to survive as Bennett hit him none stop for 6 rounds but just could not find a way through to stop Willington.
Decent fight that one for Bennett who is now hoping for a central area title fight.

Re: Mark Bennett.
Mark ‘Bad News’ Bennett moved up to 5-0 with another points win for the hard-hitting heavyweight.
The tactics were to pace it and get the rounds in, which might sound strange for a heavyweight at this early stage of his career, but we are looking at doing 10 rounds for the Central Area heavyweight title next.
Personally, I think his opponent Miles Willington (1-6) was hurt a few times, but he was as game and as tough as they come and hung in there to the final bell.
Here's the full report from the show where Sonny Boy Price (7-0) and Cameron Kaihau (2-0) also notched up another win: http://britishboxingnews.co.uk/blogs/ma ... -up-to-5-0
Mark’s already been made mandatory for the Central Area title that former champion Kash Ali was forced to vacate after his suspension from the Board. He wasn't defending the title anyway, so deserved to be stripped, despite the disqualificaion decision against David Price last March.
I believe that promoter Carl Greaves has got a decent lad that he wants to put forward for it – Ellis Machin (2-0-1), who’s fighting in a month’s time in his second six-rounder.
They’re both undefeated boxers, so I say let’s make the fight happen, if the Board allow it. Failing the Central Area, the English heavyweight title is vacant now that Daniel Dubois is fighting Nathan Gorman for the British, which is 10 rounds like the Central Area is, so we’re ready for that as well!
Whichever comes our way, Central Area or English, Mark 'Bad News' Bennett is ready to go!

So why not match him with one of the other lads on the show rather than a 1-6 opponent?MasterG wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 16:39

I need to watch a couple of his fights, he’s been sparring some quality guys so he’s certainly going about things the right way. Will be interesting to see how far he can go. I’d like to see him in against Josh Sandland I think that was mooted for the Central Area title...MasterG wrote: ↑27 Jun 2019, 16:39 Mark ‘Bad News’ Bennett moved up to 5-0 with another points win for the hard-hitting heavyweight.

Re: Mark Bennett.
Bennett is a novice of 5 fights with no amateur background. The fight with Willington was planned. Bennett is being matched accordingly and the 5 opponents to date have been appropriate for a novice. Bennett is moving forward in the right direction.
Re: Mark Bennett.
Nice little interview this evening.
Re: Mark Bennett.
should put him in with Dave Allen for the battle of Doncaster
