Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams - May 11, 2019
Unified and undefeated IBF, IBO and WBA 154-pound "Swift'' Jarrett Hurd will defend his titles against top contender Julian "J-Rock'' Williams live in primetime in Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes action on Saturday, May 11 at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia.
Plus, unbeaten super lightweight contender Mario "El Azteca" Barrios battles Argentina's Juan "The Pitbull" Jose Velasco in a 10-round fight and middleweight contender Matt Korobov clashes with Immanuwel Aleem in a 10-round bout as part of televised action beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
Tickets for the event go on sale Thursday, March 28 at 12 p.m. ET and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.com).
"Jarrett Hurd has established himself as one of the breakout stars in boxing, and now he'll have a chance to showcase his talents in front of his hometown faithful," said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. "He will have a stiff test from Julian Williams, who since his only defeat has racked up win after win to show that he is still squarely in the elite class of the division. This is setting up to be a fantastic main event for viewers in primetime to enjoy on FOX and FOX Deportes. With 'Swift' making his first hometown title defense, the crowd at EagleBank Arena is sure to deliver a raucous atmosphere."
Hurd vs. Williams is one of the best matches that can be made in the super welterweight division as two of the division's young, hungry fighters square off on the march toward an undisputed world title.
"I couldn't be happier to be fighting at home for the first time as a champion," said Hurd. "My hometown has been asking me to bring the championship back home and now I can. Julian Williams is a tough opponent and I don't see him as a stepping stone. He's crafty, technical and fundamentally sound. I want to go out and get a decisive win and show that I'm on a different level than everybody else in the division."
"Jarrett Hurd is a good, strong fighter that's really hot right now,'' Williams said. "This is a hometown fight for him, but Philly isn't that far from Virginia. I'm looking forward to putting on an exciting fight for all of the fans on FOX, and most importantly winning those titles and showing the world that I am the best in the 154-pound division.''

Yeah I feel like he gets overlooked way too much.

Looking forward to Jarett Hurd fight. One of my favorite fighters. Can he become undisputed champion at 154? Hopefully he is working on his defense. Matt Korobov on undercard is good too

Solid undercard including Fulton-Ambunda, Korobov-Aleem and rookie Justin Simpson. Rising star Mario Barrios has a less-challenging opponent in Juan Velasco but will be interesting to see if Barrios can handle him easier than Reggie Prograis did last summer.
Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams - May 11, 2019
Williams might give him some problems for a few rounds, but Hurd will stop him somewhere along the line.

Hurd as usual starts slow in this fight too? William may have early success.
I have a feeling this one goes the distance.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams - May 11, 2019
Hurd’s team should have their heads examined for taking this fight. Provided that it wasn’t a mandatory, this fight is a textbook example of a fight to avoid.
Williams chin is perhaps suspect so I can see amateurish thinking that it would lean heavily into Hurds strengths but I disagree. Williams has a ton of athletic ability, speed and quickness. Never mind that he’s also a technician with high Boxing IQ. This is clearly looking like a lock that Williams wins unanimous decision and titles while making Hurd look horrible by magnifying Hurd’s less than elite boxing ability.
All of this doesn’t include the biggest no-no of it all. Williams has zero fanfare and his stock is at an all time low. You don’t risk an improving young hungry champion with a fight like this for chump change. It’s all f’ng Wrong! I love Hurd and this fight is gonna kill his value. Just crush it to a point that might never can be redeemed.

Amazing that Team Hurd gets criticized for doing what boxing fans desire; taking meaningful challenges. It was Hurd who said he wanted a couple of fights before going after Charlo. It would be a waste of time if he had taken a no hoper, and the same ones claiming that his team has made a mistake scheduling Williams would be eviscerating him for taking a soft touch.
Thank you to teams Hurd and Williams for making this fight. Kudos to both boxers.

Yehh it’s a very good fight to take. Well done team Hurd.
Boxers can’t win. Fight no hopers and get slated, take on a challenge and get ‘team Hurd needs to get their head examined’
Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams - May 11, 2019
its literally only one guy across the boards ive seen slate hurd for this, youll always have 1 person complaining, no matter what it is
willaims is a moderatly interesting opponent, i certainly dont see him winning but hes a decent b level guy who can have his moments

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams - May 11, 2019
Williams is better than a "stay busy" fight, but doesn't really pose a huge threat. I guess if Hurd has a bad evening and Williams has a career performance, then anything can happen. Even if he's top 10 SWW.

Re: Jarrett Hurd vs. Julian Williams - May 11, 2019
Jarrett Hurd didn’t have nearly as much difficulty cutting weight for his fight Saturday night as he did for his previous bout.
The 6-feet-1 Hurd, the biggest champion in the 154-pound division, revealed Thursday night that he had to cut 36 pounds during fight week six months ago. Hurd still weighed in at 152 pounds, two below his division’s limit, for a fourth-round knockout of England’s Jason Welborn on December 2 at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Though he had an easier time making weight for his upcoming fight against Julian Williams, Hurd came in heavier at their weigh-in Friday afternoon than for the Welborn bout. The 28-year-old Hurd officially weighed 153¾ pounds for their 12-round fight for Hurd’s IBF, IBO and WBA 154-pound championships.
