Does anyone else get the feeling that in a sense the ABC bodies kind of have their own scouting system and place hopes on some more unrecognised fighters, rank them highly, knowing that the other alphabets ideally want to rank totally diffrerent fighters?

They take a punt on these guys, for example Ali Eren Demirezen in that list, hoping that by some chance, he suddenly makes a splash in the division, and it was they who ranked him first and will afford him a shot at their world title before the others do?

You see several recognised names dotted around most if not all the 4 main bodies top 10-15, but the rest are really seemingly plucked from thin air. That's the only logical reason I can come up with though.

Richard Lartey? Is that even a boxer? I guess the WBO thought highly of his win over Morris Okola. Wait, who is Morris Okola?

I wonder if the WBO would subsequently order a title eliminator between the promotional free agent, Dillian Whyte, and Tyson Fury to become AJ’s mandatory? Bob Arum does seem to have a very good relationship with the WBO.

I think it’s more about saving face, because AJ would be mocked by the media and the vast majority of fight fans if replicated Riddick Bowe’s actions, by throwing one of his titles in the trash can rather than facing one of his mandated opponents.

The title of being the “undisputed” heavyweight champion of the world also carries with it a certain amount of commercial worth. AJ would need to provide the media with legitimate sporting reasons to explain the reason why he abandoned achieving one of his long-term ambitions. He can’t say he did it for the money or because of his team don't want to work with ESPN.

Anthony Joshua is very media savvy and has gained an awful lot of popularity and wealth from portraying himself as being a humble, fearless and ambitious guy – a man of the people. Blatantly “ducking” an opponent, especially a fellow Brit, due to business reasons, would have a significant adverse effect on his overall commercial worth.

The WBO title in isolation isn’t worth that much to a marquee name like AJ, it’s the perceived “ducking” of Tyson Fury that could affect his popularity and subsequently his earnings’ potential.

So Top Rank appear to be directing Tyson into achieving mandatory challenger status with the WBO in order to force the purse bid, which could potentially allow ESPN win the rights to televise the Joshua-Fury bout.

Fury should be aiming for the WBC. Without that he’s looking at mandatory money against Joshua. A mandatory position does him little favour in negotiations for that one.

I think I’ve already provided this explanation on a different thread, but I’ll repeat myself once more to clarify the point I’m making…

Tyson Fury signed a deal worth $103.5m with ESPN, which will inevitably contain numerous contractual stipulations.

It’s merely speculation on my part, but it’s unimaginable to think that the contractual terms of this deal wouldn’t contain some sort of reference to the conditions ESPN would offer/dictate should they televise a bout between Fury and Joshua. It might be in the form of an additional bonus (separate from the purse) for Tyson to take the fight, or the $103.5 already contains some sort of upfront payment to account for this eventuality.

Either way, ESPN wouldn’t have offered a deal worth $103.5m to Tyson Fury without discussing the possibility of what would happen in the scenario of cross-platform cross-promotion fights against the likes of Wilder and Joshua.

So here’s what I’m thinking…

Top Rank are clearly attempting to manoeuvre the Brit into achieving mandatory challenger status with the WBO in order to force the purse bid, potentially allowing ESPN to win the rights to televise a potential Joshua-Fury super-fight.

Bob Arum has a very cosy relationship with the WBO. And I’m pretty sure that ESPN and Top Rank have already found a way to compensate Tyson Fury for having to accept the WBO's typical 25% mandatory challenger purse split, with Joshua receiving the remainder.

It’s a win-win situation for them if AJ refuses to participate in the purse bid and vacates the WBO championship.

I’m coming from the angle of what the boxing content providers want rather than the fighters purse split demands, since the networks have already compensated their boxers with nine-digit deals.

I’m kind of shocked you guys think that ESPN have paid Tyson Fury a deal worth $103.5m to continuously face opponents such as Tom Schwarz.

How has Joseph Parker managed to disappear from the top 15?

He was their champion until last year and has only lost to the current champion and the number 1 contender thus far.

He must have left the toilet seat up at WBO HQ!
