The EBU is the full European title.
The EBU EU is the European Union title.
The EBU EE is for European countries outside of the EU, so perhaps British boxers might start boxing for them soon.

Virtually all of the EBU External titles are currently vacant. Emre Cukur holds the SMW belt and there is an upcoming Heavyweight title fight coming soon and that's about it.

British boxers have rarely bothered with the EBU European Union titles during all the time the UK has been a member of the European Union so whether any will bother with the external titles after Brexit :maybe:

Some of the weight divisions only have 6 or 7 eligible ranked boxers in them while the rankings for both the EU and European titles for many weights divisions have 20 or more fighters listed!

The only UK boxer I can recall holding an eu belt is Sprott.
I imagine that the International and Intercontinental belts have reduced the take up.

I think Junior Witter held an EU belt before winning the European title.

The alphabets all coming up with their own European, continental etc. etc. titles has definitely reduced the demand for the EBU's second tier titles. I'm not sure if the EBU rules are a bit stricter than some of the other sanctioning bodies too, I notice that there are a couple of boxers listed as ineligible to hold EBU titles because they hold World Boxing Federation world titles.

Something tell me Willie Limond also held the EU title.

The only guy I can remember fighting for the External title was Senchenko (who fought Hatton and Brook).

I think with the British title holding so much welly our fighters rarely need this to up their European ranking. If you had, say, a guy from the most obscure EU country going and he wins the Their heavyweight title, he may still be unrated by the EBU tho so I guess this is aimed at those guys.

British boxers currently are not eligible to box for the EE title.

I honestly don't mind lesser titles (although 1 per organisation) if they do as they originally planned which is to give a fighter a ranking for the "main title".

If the EU and EEA champion is then guarenteed at top 10 ranking for the full EBU belt then great - it boosts a small hall show and actually means something.

Similarly for the International / Intercontinental belt. Originally designed for fighters between the rankings of 11-25, the winner moves into the top 10.

However, its when you at the Youth or European versions - that's when they just become pointless.

Willie Limond won an EU title at Super Featherweight, beating Yousef Djibaba.
I remember it was one of those bouts with two judges outside the ring and the referee acting as the third judge.

Yeah maybe I didn’t make it clear I was referring to the EBU-EU title which Brits are currently eligible to fight for, not the EBU-EE title.

I agree. I like how a European belt puts you automatically in the world rankings of various organisations and so on. Unfortunately when you have Americans fighting for an Asian title or whatever, they stop making sense.
