Heinz Lazek vs John Andersson June 16, 1934

Post by mrboxhist »

A small matter, but...

Added to the bout, that ended with a low blow and a dubious outcome, is the following comment:
"First a DQ win for Lazek after low blows. Andersson's camp protested on a technicality: The referee waited 4 minutes before reaching his verdict.
The Austrian Boxing Federation changed the verdict 5 days later in Wien. Reported in Paris-Soir 22-06-1934.
On a program for a later Lazek-fight, in 1941 against Heuser, the printed record list of Lazek has "1934: Andersson, ohne Entscheidung 6 rd".(Without decision)".

But. If I got my German together this is not totally correct. The fight was declared a NC because the referee did not wait the stipulated four minutes for Lazek to regain his strenght and be able to continue. The Austrian refere disqualified Andersson after a minute or so of confusion in the ring.

Source: Box-Sport no 717 p 10. The journal refers to § 23 "den boxsportlichen Regeln" under the headline Ringrichter-Misere in Wien.
