According to Eddie....

Post by MasterG »

Ortiz turned down 2 offers to fight Anthony Joshua on June 1st.

The first refused offer was 6 million dollars then 7 million.

It's actually beggers belief that anyone would turn down that kind of money, fit or unfit.

I'm wondering how much Ruiz is going to get? Bet it's not much more than a million.

He must be juiced!
If Ruiz knew what Ortiz was getting and also knowing there aren't any other half decent yanks, at this notice, you would hope his gross purse is 4 million dollars.

I am never one to jump to conclusions but there can surely only be one reason why Ortiz turns down that kind of money. He’s 40 (and the rest) year’s old and doesn’t have too many more years left at the top level. Even if he lost he could probably quickly rebuild to a rematch with Wilder, as there is enough of a story there to warrant a second fight...

Ruiz will get way more than a million. I’ll be amazed if he’s earning less than 3 million.

Well maybe he wants to be at his best with a decent camp behind him rather than be parachuted in unprepared?

Apparently you've just got to be grateful to get the opportunity to fight Joshua. Thinking about winning or how a bad defeat affects your future career is not something that should be considered.

Although in the case of Ortiz at his age I agree the gamble should have been worth considering.

Ortiz definitely juiced up and knows he'll fail a drugs test ,not enough time to get the gear out if his system.

his own team said they wanted it and that they shouldve taken it, 7m for a 40 year old with a much smaller career high is an amazing deal

7 million is dumb money and Ortiz just crapped it away. None it this makes any sense other than he couldn't pass a test.

For $6m he bloody well should be grateful tbf

He wont earn that if he has 10 more fights in his career and it's an opportunity to fight for multiple world titles. Plus, it's against an opponent who has trained for a stylistically completely different fighter.

I saw an interview on BS where Ortiz's trainer was basically saying that Ortiz's promoter hadnt even notified Ortiz of the offers! Had basically turned them down straight off the bat.

Yeah, I read that too.
Ortiz's management were playing hard ball with Eddeh, unbeknownst to Ortiz and his trainer. Ortiz wanted the fight, who wouldn't, but Eddeh had enough and moved on. Ortiz is spewing.
Well that is the other side of the story.

Ortiz has his surprise 60th in July. It’ll be a surprise to him too as he still thinks he’s in his 40s

Eddie has read out a few emails from Finkel in the past,. He also admits that he shares some of the blame for AJ-Wilder not being made.,

Nah, maybe 1.5, though Eddie does like to burn theythat dazn money. Chance of lifetime for him. I can't imagine Joshua will be back here soon barring wilder and Ruiz wouldn't likely get the call for a stadium in the UK. Then again, I didn't think they would offer Ortiz more than that. I know it sounds silly but I think Charr would have been the best bet long term for Josh and dazn. You have to think dazn will have a record sign up this weekend and Josh would be part of that month. A devastating early ko would open more eyes than what is more likely to be an extended beating.
