World Boxing News has learned Joe Joyce is passing up on the chance to fight for the vacant Lonsdale Belt as stipulated by the British Boxing Board of Control.
The heavyweight contender is instead eyeing up a big top division name for a summer return once his debut under allegedly is out of the way.
Joyce fights Alexander Ustinov on May 18. The encounter forms part of the main card for Billy Joe Saunders’ world title fight with Shefat Isufi at Lamex Stadium.
A win over Ustinov will propel Joyce into the realm of potentially being one fight from a world title shot.
I figured as much in another post. Joyce is 33/34 and needs that title shot this year or early next. Dubois will plaster Gorman.

I dunno man! I wouldn't be surprised to see Gorman outbox Dubois over 12! Obviously he's gonna have to have a good beard and also make Dubois miss a lotoogiebe wrote: ↑07 May 2019, 14:17 World Boxing News has learned Joe Joyce is passing up on the chance to fight for the vacant Lonsdale Belt as stipulated by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Gorman is yet another Irish Traveler gypsy. He is the great-nephew of the undefeated bare-knuckle fighter Bartley Gorman, the 'King of the Gypsies'.
Re: Joyce to step aside in favor of Dubois vs Gorman
Joyce is running out of time and doesn't have the luxury of looking backwards at domestic competition. It would have been madly ambitious on the part of Dubois and was never likely to happen.
It could be said Ustinov is a far easier fight for Joyce than Dubois (or Gorman) and every bit as much a waste of his valuable time but Ustinov, while no longer competitive, still has a name that looks good on the resumé, and that may help in the quest for a title shot. Often it's more about perception than reality.

interesting, 50/50 fight between top 10-20 potential prospects, i think Gorman will win after a close fight
