Jazza Dickens vs. Nathaniel May - 12 July 2019

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Jazza Dickens has a dream IBF European title shot against the high-class Nathaniel May on the #MTKFightNight at Liverpool’s Olympia on July 12 – live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank.

Dickens (26-3, 11 KOs) will enjoy home advantage against the world-ranked May (20-1, 11 KOs), who fights outside his native Australia for the second time having starred on the #MTKFightNight in Belfast back in October.

Dickens, who has the British belt still firmly in his sights, said: “I’m buzzing to have momentum and this activity will bring the best out of me when I step in there on the night.

“MTK Global has done a great job and have been an absolute pleasure to work with. They’re great for boxing because they’re honest, straight-forward and hard-working.

“I’ve had a short rest with my family & friends and now we are ready to go again.”

May added: “Boxing is massive in the UK so to be back there fighting in a title fight is a big deal for me and I’m really excited.

“I know Jazza is a crafty southpaw and he knows his way around the ring. I’ve got to respect him because if you don’t respect someone like him, you’re in for a shock.

“This is going to be a great fight for the fans. We can go to war but whatever happens, I’ll be up for the challenge.”

News of a full undercard – featuring some of the city’s top talent – will be announced in due course.

Maybe it’s the IBF EuroVISION belt?!? I’m sure the Aussies take part in that nowadays.

TBH, these regional belts can be at a stake for any fights. Don’t matter where you’re from.

I seen the WBO Oceania and other Oceanic titles been defended against Americans.

Pretty sure the WBC Latino belt has been defended against a non-Latino boxer.

I think anyone can box for anything. (All you need to do is pay a small sanc fee)..

Martin Murray will be back in the ring in a few weeks' time.

“I’ve been keeping myself fit and doing a lot of training,” said Murray, who will accompany gym-mate Rocky Fielding in returning on the July 12 card at the Eventim Olympia in Liverpool.

“I’m pushing myself and I know I’m not done physically but mentally, I needed a rest. Now I’m fully refreshed.

“This short time away from the sport has done me a world of good because I’ve had time to sit down and think about what I really wanted. I’m back and I’m just going to enjoy fighting again.

“I went back to the gym yesterday and I genuinely loved being back. I’m not done – I had one off fight and now I’m coming back. I can’t wait to get out there in Liverpool.”

The former WBA ‘regular’ super-middleweight champion, Fielding, has been out since last December.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be back,” said Fielding. “There’s no place like home and the Olympia is really where my career started – I wonPrizefighter there and then the English and British titles there too.”

Rocky Fielding has been ruled out of his ring return.

“[I’m] gutted to announce I have had to pull out of my fight due to breaking my toe,” he said. “I tried to rest it and work around it but it has been impossible. I will keep everyone updated on my next one.”

The card, which will be streamed exclusively live on ESPN+ Stateside and iFL TV in the UK, is scheduled to be topped by the return of middleweight Martin Murray against Denmark’s Kim Poulsen and Jazza Dickens’ vacant IBF European featherweight title showdown against Australia’s Nathaniel May.

Martin Murray Faces New Foe In Liverpool

Rui Manuel Pavanito has stepped in to face Martin Murray on Friday.

Murray, from St Helens, had been set to take on Kim Poulsen from Denmark at the Eventim Olympia.

The clash will form part of the supporting cast to Jazza Dickens’ vacant IBF European featherweight title clash against Australia’s Nathaniel May, exclusively live on iFL TV in the UK and ESPN + Stateside.

Portugal’s Pavanito has a record of 10-8-1 with five quick and comes in to face Murray in what is the former four-time world title challenger’s return since losing to Hassan N’Dam last December at Manchester Arena.

He is the current Portuguese champion up at super-middleweight and hasn’t been in the ring since last November but is stepping in after unforeseen circumstances saw Poulsen pull out.

Poulsen, who has a ring record of 28-5 with seven quick and is 32 years old, was last seen taking interim WBA Oceania super-middleweight champion Jayde Mitchell the full 10 rounds in December and was very much a live opponent – but 36-year-old Murray has been forced to adapt to the late change of opponent.

Craig Glover will look to get back to winning ways on the card and Sam Maxwell will fight for the first time since winning the WBO European super-lightweight title with a 12th-round stoppage win over Sabri Sediri of France in Leicester back in March.

Natasha Jonas will feature, Ged Carroll will fight on the bill and there will be action for John Quigley and Billy Potter who will be making his professional debut after signing with Alfie Warren and Warren Boxing Management.

But classy youngster James Heneghan has been forced out of his fight on the card after suffering a virus in training which he has failed to recover from.

Olympia, Liverpool - Former lightweight world champion Terry Flanagan (34-2, 14 KOs) snapped a two fight losing streak with a fifth round stoppage of Jonas Segu (19-9-2).

The win snapped a two fight losing streak for Flanagan, and it was his first victory since April of 2017 - when he decisioned Petr Petrov to retain the WBO title at 135-pounds.

Also on the card, impressive rising prospect Sam Maxwell (12-0, 10 KOs) continued his path of destruction as he needed only two rounds to blow away overmatched Oscar Amador (10-21), who was never in the fight.

Craig Glover (10-2, 8 KOs) continues to rebuild, picking up a six round decision over Jiri Svacina (13-35).

Olympia, Liverpool - Fighting as a light heavyweight for this stay busy fight, Martin Murray (38-5-1, 18 KOs) won a ten round decision over Rui Manuel Pavanito (10-10-1).

In his last fight, the 36-year-old Murray was upset by Hassan N'Dam, who picked up a twelve round majority decision back in December in Manchester. The loss snapped a four fight winning streak.

Murray came out with a lot of aggression in the fight, letting his hands go from the early going.

The fight became a lot more physical during when the fourth round came around, with Pavanito deciding to trade with Murray during spots.

Murray turned on the heat in the second half, coming forward and landing shots to the head and body to break Pavanito down.

During the ninth, Murray hurt Pavanito and tried to finish him off but couldn't finish him off. Murray continued to pour on the leather until the final bell.

Olympian Natasha Jonas (8-1, 6 KOs) continued to push forward with her career, as he battered and stopped Bec Connolly (2-6) in the fourth round.

Jonas' had her arsenal on full display, as she punished Connolly - who kept coming forward and taking damage, round after round.

By the fourth, the referee had seen enough after Connolly was rocked by body shot.

It was the second win in a row, after Jonas was shockingly stopped in four rounds back in August, at the hands of big underdog Viviane Obenauf. In that bout, Jonas was down three times and badly hurt when her corner threw in the towel.

She bounced back in March with a six round decision over Feriche

Junior welterweight contender Gerard Carroll (11-0), won a six round decision over Jordan Ellison (11-23). The sole score was 58-56.

Olympia, Liverpool - In a battle for the vacant International Boxing Federation European featherweight title, Jazza Dickens (27-3, 11 KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Nathaniel May (21-2, 12 KOs). The scores were 97-92, 97-91 and 96-92.

May has not tasted defeat since losing a six round decision to Waylon Law back February of 2014, which was his fifth fight.

Coming in, Dickens had won four in a row since getting stopped in two rounds by Guillermo Rigondeaux in July 2016.

In the fourth, Dickens hurt and dropped May. In the fifth, in what appeared to be a slip, Dickens was credited with a second knockdown when May went down as their feet got tangled.
