Re: Danny Garcia vs. Mikey Garcia - August 2019?
After his no show against Spence, it would be a huge mistake to put Mikey Garcia in another PPV 5 months later.
He needs to establish credibility at 147 first before you ask fans to pluck down $50-$70. It would bomb.
But Danny Garcia, a smaller welter who hasn't been particularly aggressive at welter, is a good choice for Mikey.
It will show us if Mikey is just not cut out for that weight division, or if Spence is simply a far superior talent.
If Mikey can fight effectively at 147, he can beat Danny Garcia in an interesting technical matchup.

I honestly thought he may have a fight at 140, or even a ‘softer’ fight at 147.SenorPipino wrote: ↑14 May 2019, 15:02 After his no show against Spence, it would be a huge mistake to put Mikey Garcia in another PPV 5 months later.

It’s true Danny is a smaller WW and he finds it hard to let his hands go against the top level opponents, but he’s bigger than Mikey and would probably see himself at an advantage.
I doubted Spence would drop Garcia and I doubt Garcia can too. Unless he throws a no-look hook behind Mikey’s ear.
Looks like FOX is taking over Showtime completely.

That means it will probably be a draw.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Mikey Garcia - August 2019?
Ballsy move for Mikey. I expected he'd go back down to 140, but I guess he's banking that it's not a case of the weight being too big for him, it's just that Spence was that good. Danny Garcia is at worst Top 6 or 7 in a pretty deep division. Possibly Top 5. To beat him you'd definitely have to be a serious contender. It's either gonna work out well for Mikey or it'll be further evidence that he don't fit at 147.
It also gives him another training camp, and all that to properly grow into the division, which could make a big difference in his performance as well.

Much as I thought the Spence situation left Mikey looking like a doofus, I don't mind this fight at all.

Re: Danny Garcia vs. Mikey Garcia - August 2019?
I dont get this decision making from Mickey's camp. If he had gone for Pacquiao instead of Spence he would have probably beat him, then Danny or Spence now would be pretty awesome. He got dominated by Spence but at 140 or even 135 he can be salvaged. If he could still make 135 i could see him schooling Teofimo and set up a mega fight with Loma.
I get that there are no big names at 140 and maybe he cant make 135 but getting dominated again possibly stopped this time would pretty much burry any hopes of a Loma fight. Why not get a belt at 140 then unify with Prograis or Ramirez?
Very careless matchmaking for a great fighter.

Re: Danny Garcia vs. Mikey Garcia - August 2019?
Danny is a natural 140lb-er.
Mikey is a natural 135lb-er.
The fight is being fought at 147lbs.
The Puerto Rican Garcia should be regarded as the slight favourite in this fight.
I’m guessing Mikey is sorely tempted to receive multiple welterweight-sized paydays before he hangs up his gloves, even if it does result in a few needless losses on his record.
After all, boxers are known as “PRIZE fighters” rather than “PRIDE fighters”.
Anyway, Danny wins this one, but it’ll be far more competitive than Mikey’s bout with Errol Spence Jr.
May the best Garcia win.

"Danny is a natural 140lb-er.
Mikey is a natural 135lb-er.

The lighter weight guys worry about 5 pounds. Heavies tho are expected to fight guys outweighing them by 50, 75, 100 pounds, the sky's the limit. If you weigh 201 you're in the same weight class with the 6'9" giants!

Size matters in all weight divisions - even heavyweight.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑15 May 2019, 14:43 "Danny is a natural 140lb-er.

There’s a reason why weight classes exist.
A new weight division may be required between cruiser and heavyweight.

One could intelligently argue that DSG is still u defeated. I think the Porter decision was awful as I clearly had Danny winning that fight. The Thurman loss was such a close fight that I also had Danny pulling this one out late but I can’t argue with It. I think Danny was way too patient in both losses and never matched the intensity of either Porter or KT. Thurman came out hard in the first and that was so unexpected that I think it took Danny 5 rounds to get over it. Once he settled in, he was better than competence. WTH am I talking about? Oh yeah, Great fight here. I’d love to see this one. Danny by KO

Actually Danny Garcia has a better resume than Spence . Only legit win that gives Spence real credibility is Kell Brook, Yes Spence looks imposing and tough, but based on his resume, Danny Garcia has done the better body of work, fighting Porter and losing, questionable loss to Thurman, beat Maythesse, and beat a dangerous version of Khan.SenorPipino wrote: ↑15 May 2019, 08:57 Spence didn't exactly crush Mikey.

If Danny Garcia fights to his full current capability he crushes Mikey Garcia. and Yes Danny is a on the small side for welterweight.

It wasn’t a clear win for any of them.

Danny has this thing where when he is in a big fight, he’s scared to let it all go. By time he does, fights over.

Wish I could upvote this.
Re: Danny Garcia vs. Mikey Garcia - August 2019?
That’s my point. Danny could easily still be undefeated if 1 round in each was scored the other way in a slew of rounds that were way too evenly fought to confidently award either fighter the round.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑15 May 2019, 18:03 Just because you scored it for Garcia doesn’t mean he should of won.

Danny looked amazing in his last fight and finally looks like he’s got his confidence back. Not sure I’d want him to suck back down to 140 again for this one so hopefully a catch weight somewhere north of it.
