Middleweights: Luis Manuel Rodriguez vs Sumbu Kalambay

Post by scorpio83 »

Who would win at their best at middleweight between Luis Manuel Rodriguez and former WBA Middleweight Champion Sumbu Kalambay who were both boxer-counterpuncher? Would Kalambay use his jab and counterpunch against Rodriguez or Rodriguez would do the same strategy against Kalambay for each get a 15 round decision or a draw. What do you guy thinks?

Hell nah! I disagree with that. Luis Manuel Rodriguez was too much class. A very underrated all time pound per pound great.

I wouldn't necessarily describe Rodriguez as a counter puncher. He could counter but he was more the fighter to make the action. Moving, jabbing, throwing in bunches, mixing it upstairs and downstairs. He was magnificent and a handful for basically any fighter.

Kalambay is an interesting style for him because the safety first, defensive fighters probably gave Rodriguez (and most fighters in general) the most issues. Rodriguez would still win though. It's probably close through 5-6 with Rodriguez keeping catching up and pulling away late to win a close, but clear decision. Kalambay would have no picnic with Luis' constant movement, high volume and variety.

He was better in welterweight.

Kalambay beat McCallum, .I don't think that LMR was better than great Mike.

Sorry, but yes. Luis Manuel Rodriguez was one of a kind. Too bad he never got the recognition that he really deserved.
