Gary Russell Jr. met with Eddie Hearn. Signing with Matchroom/DAZN??
SOURCES: Gary Russell Jr. met with Eddie Hearn today in D.C. area to discuss multi-fight deal with Matchroom/DAZN. Featherweight champ said this week he’s a free agent (he’s long been with PBC) and since his comments he’s been hotly pursued. Would be a major signing for Hearn

Very interesting. Maybe Hearn will get him to fight more than once a year.
Potentially move up at fight Farmer?
Thoughts?

If Hearn signs Russell Jr. to a multi-fight deal, we could be seeing the contract end many years from now if he continues to fight only once a year. For example, a three-fight deal with Russell Jr. could end in 2022 if he chooses to fight on an annual basis. Russell Jr. has already fought once in 2019 against Kiko Martinez. If Russell Jr. chooses not to fight again until 2020, then that would be the first fight of his multi-fight contract with Hearn if he signs with him. The only way it makes sense for Hearn to ink Russell Jr. is if he can get a guarantee that he’ll try and fight twice a year.

I do not know what Russel is thinking only fighting once a year.
He's wasting his career

I could only assume that leaving pbc is because he wants to fight more often.

Why do people assume GRJ chooses to fight once per year? Just about EVERY PBC fighter has 1 or 2 fights per year...Spence, Thurman, Danny G, Tank, Porter, Mikey G, Deontay, etc. They all fight once or twice at the most.
It's just as likely a PBC problem as it is a GRJ problem

1 fight is usually an easy one and then a tougher one.

Who's Russell going to fight ?
He's named Leo Santa Cruz as a potential opponent.
Gary has got some mad skills but it feels like he will be a boxer we never get to see the best of.

Age is a factor with him now.
We tend to forget how good he is because of his once a year fights.
Then he comes out and reminds us what a talent he is each and every time.
Guys of his size, you have to think he has maybe 2-3 years before his speed starts to wain. Maybe not.
But if I was him, I would be pushing the earning potential for a nice retirement nest egg.

He usually fights half ass fringe contenders so it's not hard to look great against the guys he fights. Which is never one of the top guys.KiwiRider wrote: ↑27 Jul 2019, 21:05I really hope so.
