If so, it hard to imagine that a late replacement was offered more for the opportunity of a lifetime.

Especially Ruiz, who wasn't a high profile name like Ortiz.

i read millers purse was like 4.8 but then had other parts to it that would make it probably around 6.5 total pay in the end

You’re right, he was a relatively unknown but for 6 1/2 mil? Holy crap... I wish they had clauses in these contracts that if you get a TKO or a knock out in this sort of situation you get a bonus.

Promoters aren't usually that generous. Only Haymon is coming up with whacky numbers.

do you know how boxing works. they dont wait to know a result before deciding on payment, a great performance goes into your next pay cheque, not your one before you even give that performance. we dont have time machines

6.5 is a great pay day, laughable that ppl are acting like ruiz got short changed , what was this guys best payday and how often do guys that were in his situation make that much

Fair pay. 5 million pounds plus four championship belts for a evening's work. Not too shabby.

Nothing wrong with the pay day for being a late challenger who was relatively unranked.

Will be interesting to see what he's had to sign re the rematch though to get the initial fight. I'm sure it will come out in the next few weeks.

I'm pretty sure they do that in other sports for incentives to perform well. Maybe I missed something in one of these threads but what would the payment structure be for the rematch? Would Ruiz receive more than Joshua having the roles reversed as far as Champion and Challenger?

Thats a lot of McDonalds cheeseburgers, which is what I assume ruiz takes his pay in

If it's in the UK, Joshua is still the star. He'll undoubtedly receive more.

But the difference will be very close next time.

That’s why I couldn’t understand Whyte not gambling and taking the fight - either way you get well paid - and if you win you get double.

Think Whyte massively over estimates his “PPV” value.

Ruiz rolled the dice for career high cash and chance to be Champ.

That’s the thing with Whyte he wanted 9m region - I know he’s improved since 1st Joshua fight but he still got emptied in that one.

He’s been No1 for 2 years and is still as far away as ever from getting WBC shot - probably even further now.

Probably as much as he made for all / the majority of his other fights combined. All for a voluntary shot at 3 of the big 4 belts. He'll now get an even bigger payday for the rematch, a fight he'll now be favourite in. Win that and he's got big money options with WIlder/Fury. Even if you feel £5m is low (it isn't) he's got a minimum 1 more even bigger payday from it. Not bad for a fight that didn't have to happen.
