The keys to the victory of Andy Ruiz

Post by Susej_SOG »

Speed, explosivity, timing, creative counter punches, heart and chin.

People is talking too much about excuses, or other things, but the reality is that Andy did a great job.

He won the first two rounds and Joshua looked confused and worried about the hand speed of Andy, when Joshua landed big shots, Andy was ready to counter him with combos.

Andy showed a lot of heart when Joshua knocked down him, then, Andy landed sick combos in the exchange, like Juan Manuel Marquez, Andy was able to recover of those big shots and he neutralized the damage.

In the fight, Joshua landed monster left hooks and big right hands and Andy took all his power.

Andy showed more determination in round 5 and 6, in the end of the round 6, Andy landed a left jab to the head of Anthony, opening a space in the stomach, and then he landed a big right hand to the body that hurted Joshua.

In the round 7, Joshua landed a big right hand, Andy's answer was too good: fast combinations and the fight was over... Anthony was hurted and the fight was over.

No question about it. But this is a boxing forum and we like to discuss all topics. BTW, after the Ruiz went down, he got up and took a really solid right hand right on the chin and still came forward. I think that took the life out of AJ.

Overanalyzing like crazy. AJ got sloppy as HELL after knocking down Ruiz and did something he never does, plant his feet and throw reckless 4-5 punch combos trying to end the fight immediately. In doing so he left himself totally wide open and caught a nasty short left hook from Ruiz behind the ear that he never recovered from. If Joshua takes his time and stays composed, keeps his range and picks his shots he systematically breaks Ruiz down. By recklessly jumping into a phone booth fight with a much smaller fighter who needs a phone booth fight to succeed, he put himself in great danger. He beat himself. He knows it. Next fight he will get behind the jab again, pick his spots to land hard shots, do what he usually does. Box responsibly.

You say Ruiz won the first 2 rounds...except all 3 judges had Joshua up 20-18.

Because judges on Match room cards have a history of knowing what they are doing

For me it just came down to Joshua's inability to deal with someone with decent hand speed moving in under his punches.

I don't think he copes well with shorter fighters.

Plus, Ruiz seems to have one hell of a chin.

I'm just saying what the scorecards reflected. You think its gonna be any different in the rematch in the United Kingdom? AJ will get the benefit of close rounds as long as he keeps his head and boxes responsibly, which for him is getting behind the jab and looking to land hard 1-2 punch combos behind it. None of this planting his feet in the center of the ring and chucking 5 wild hooks inside a phone booth crap Cody Garbrandt style. Everything that happened in this fight beyond round 3 should be disregarded. Joshua was a severely compromised fighter fighting on wobbly legs.

LOL! How/Why do we disregard that? Don't you think it showed a lack of resiliency? :maybe:

None of that became apparent as a problem until he was hurt. And he got hurt in the first place because he fought in a manner that was very unaccustomary of him. Rushing. Sloppy. Reckless.

Because he got hurt in the first place directly because he put himself in unnecessary danger by fighting in a reckless manner that he has never before exhibited. Even after Ruiz started to punch back with authority directly after being knocked down Joshua STILL stayed in the pocket exchanging phone booth haymakers. Its one thing to try to jump on a guy after you knock him down in order to finish him off. It's another thing to continue exchanging bombs after the guy has shown you he still has his senses and is chucking bombs back. That is the exact moment Joshua lost his belts.

I don't disagree, except that it all shows his shortfalls. If you were his trainer, you'd be honing in on everything that went right and wrong in this fight looking for all and any opportunity to fix things. Merely learning how to avoid getting tagged isn't enough because you are going to get tagged. It's boxing, you're going to get hit. Avoid getting hit; learn to hold & clinch when hurt; learn to make yourself a smaller target; get more composure to mitigate further risk, etc. You can't avoid it altogether.

You are crazy, first of all, you are forgetting that Ruiz won the first two rounds and Joshua looked confused and worried against Andy fast hands and explosivity.

Joshua did the correct, Andy was hurt and Joshua tried to finish him but Andy reaction was incredible and accepted the exchange and he did it better than his rival

You are a sore loser making excuses, simple like that. Anthony accepted that Andy was better than him that night

Yeah, and that was crazy, but Anthony was the A side, really Andy looked better than him the first two rounds. Joshua looked confused as hell.

I had Joshua up 1-0-1 after two. He looked bad but did enough to take one round and draw the other.

Lol that was merit of Andy, he was able to do that when he was hurted.

And Andy was doing better in first two rounds, he was better than Joshua in every aspect.

Deal with that.

And if Joshua wins the second fight it would be 1-1, to each side

Joshua lost both rounds, he did not do anything to deserve that , just a good jab in the first and a good right in the second.

Come on.

You can't decide which parts of the fight can be regarded or disregarded. Will we just change the decision to Joshua w tko3?

I'm apparently one of the few who had Joshua ahead after 6. By 1 point.

I gave him the first 2 rounds.

IT was close going into seven, but we all saw the writing on the wall late in the sixth.

Well I hope he doesn't listen to your advice or he'll come another cropper sooner rather than later.

There's lots of things he needs to improve on, many of them fundamental. Writing it off as merely being reckless is just papering over the cracks. He needs proper advice at this time not sunshine blown up his ar*e
