GGG ... Slippin ?
GGG ... Slippin ?
How did he look doing it and who could beat him ?
4th Round stoppage looks good on the record.
His power seemed good, he leaned in for a number of shots which suggested his one punch power with direct aim from the deck isn't as good as it once was.
Square at times but confident in himself, couldn't help but notice his positioning and how it's deteriorating,
I dunno what do you think ?

3G cruised.
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
he may be but i dont really see what was so off tonight, he cake walked a weak opponent and had no problems, at that low of level he wont show much slippage
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Seemed more of an effort than it should have been.

What's he doing differently ?
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Rolls fight was a typical GGG's can crushing "big drama show". You can't really judge the whole situation on this fight. But still it looked like Golovkin was pretty much the same Golovkin, so he really mustn't waste more time on different rollses, he should go for big fights.
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
I am concerned about GGG defense and reflexes. Some of the shot he take against Rolls were so clean. On the other hand his offensive arsenal is still impressive and he did what he was supposed to do. If you ask me if GGG is past his prime, i say probably yes.
Edit: he should go after Brant or Andrade-Sulecki winner asap. He is not getting any younger

Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
I think it's Alvarez 3 he's after rather than any other fights.
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
If he did not manage to beat Álvarez in their second fight, which should have been 115-113 for GGG, how do you suppose him to win a third fight?
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Love GGG but he is on the slide. Can’t beat the clock. I just hope he ices PED user Canelo.
I still think GGG beat Canelo twice, but he clearly needs a KO.

Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Nothing can be learned from the GGG-Rolls mismatch.
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
I don’t think anyone can really say either way from this fight.
Watching the fight last night, and expecting so little from Rolls, it was noteworthy whenever he (Rolls) did anything successfully, which he didn’t do much successfully.
GGG has been inactive and could be rusty, but whether he’s slippin you can’t tell from this fight.

Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Agreed but GGG could’ve looked old. He didn’t though and probably needed this fight and camp after 9 months off.

Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Everyone always frets that he's slipping.
Even when Golovkin strolls against an undistinguished, cherry picked foe.
But you don't really see any real evidence of deterioration. He takes some clean punches but has Golovkin ever been a Mayweather?
It's good enough to get Golovkin by the obscure Rolls or a semi-retired, smaller Martiroysan. But beating that certain guy at the top is an entirely different matter, of course.
That guy has a way of making you look like you're slipping.

Agree on al counts but what about AJ/Ruiz? Who really thought that would happen and that’s why I love boxing - unpredictable.SenorPipino wrote: ↑09 Jun 2019, 09:26 Everyone always frets that he's slipping.

Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
Without pretending that I have impeccable 20/20 hindsight, Ruiz was a world class fighter. Definitely top 10.
I never felt that he was some sort of joke opponent for Joshua. But rather a competent, respectable heavyweight who would be beaten by a better fighter, but in no way would embarrass himself.
I never felt that Rolls was remotely that quality. Not a top 10 guy. Not even a top 20 guy.
Now Golovkin wasn't defending any championship so he really had no obligation to seek out a credible opponent.
But there was no drama for this one, because you knew that Rolls was brought in as a no-hope unknown and it's very unlikely that his name will ever surface again in a major boxing event.

I would put TFKoB’s chin right there with Gingerhead’s.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑09 Jun 2019, 11:28 I feel exactly the same but he’s never stopping Canelo, best chin in the game for my money
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
I’d put GGGs above his. Has Canelo been tagged cleanly by a power puncher? Perhaps once by GGG in the second fight. I can’t recall any other, but might be wrong. Either way, Canelo’s chin is pretty solid.Nightmare Roy wrote: ↑09 Jun 2019, 11:28 I feel exactly the same but he’s never stopping Canelo, best chin in the game for my money
Re: GGG ... Slippin ?
At 37 and with an aggressive style, slipping is inevitable I'm afraid. Because he has refined skills all the way around I don't think the aging will catch up to him quite as swiftly as it does other fighters, but noticeable slippage will continue to occur in the next few years I imagine.
It's just an inescapable fact of life you can't avoid. Father Time gets us all. For Athletes it's especially a pain in the ass. I figure GGG will still be a high level operator until at least 2021 sometime. That being said, even now I don't think it's out of the question he might lose fights that he wouldn't have 2 or 3 years ago.
